Your heroism and service is honored today, the 45th anniversary of your death. Your memory lives and you continue to inspire. Thank you for your service. My cherished son Larry Lasater was a fellow police officer murdered in the line of duty on April 24, 2005 while serving as a Pittsburg, CA police officer.

Time never diminishes respect and your memory will always be honored amd revered. It is wonderful to hear how much the Ohio State Highway Patrol does to honor its fallen officers and to help the surviving families.

Rest In Peace.

Jon D Birchem was truly a hero in so many ways. He was a Sr. when I was a Freshman at Elgin HS in Marion County, Ohio.
He was always friendly to the younger classmates and was a great athlete. I knew his wife Chris and sister-in-law Cathy.
It doesn't seem possible that it will be 43 years next month.
You are missed.

I attended the Ohio State Highway Patrol's memorial service for the first time this past May and was moved by the dedication the Patrol has for remembering it's fallen officers. I was also greatly moved by the number of family members who come back year after year to honor their loved ones...some who have died over 50 years ago.

My boyfriend is a trooper with the Ohio State Highway Patrol. I have always been proud of his job and his affiliation with the Patrol, but am even more so after attending the service. People always use the "words" "you will never be forgotten. The family of OSHP live by those words.

Jon’s widow and son are my mother and half-brother. I grew up knowing about Jon, who was killed in the line of duty while pursuing a fleeing vehicle, three years before I was born and understanding why my brother had a different father other than my own. I grew up understanding the ultimate sacrifices those in law enforcement can make and the family victims that are left behind. I also grew up understanding the complete and unequivocal support and care that the Ohio Highway State Patrol takes in the care and support of the widows and children of its fallen officers. Even though so many years had gone by my mother still received insurance and my brother got tuition assistance for college, even though he was an infant at the time of his father’s death. It is that dedication and devotion that makes me proud to wear a uniform myself and continue a legacy in the thin blue line.

Jon, although I did not have the opportunity of knowing you, please know that you are not forgotten. The patrol recently had a poster printed with your picture on it along with all the other fallen "troops" from Ohio.

Rest easy sir.
