Officer Freeto,
The first thing I noticed is your smile! I can tell that you loved life, and your job. I can only imagine that great smile looking down on your wife and children as you watch over them.
I pray that god will give them a special comfort during this very sad time.
Rest easy now Officer Freeto, we have the watch from here.

First and foremost.....I want to send my condolences to the Freeto family. This was a brave and caring officer who risked his life everyday to make this world a better place. Know that he is looking down on all of you with a smile on his face. You will see him again.
I have to take this opportunity to say something about this incident. It was four years ago that I lost my dear friend, Dallas Police Officer, Patrick Metzler to this very almost identical incident. I read the article in the Dallas newspaper where they stated they were not sure what caused the explosion. The Crown Vic is notorious for exploding upon impact. I have written letters to Congress about this as well as William Ford asking to have these vehicles removed and replaced. We all have to ban together to get these cars off the street. If all of us fight together, we can save another life and family from going through these horrific incidents. It is senseless and tragic what these officers are having to endure. I would love to have the chance to speak with you Mrs. Freeto if and when you feel like talking. You can reach me at [email protected]. Again, I am very sorry for your loss and know exactly what you are feeling. Just know that even though we never get over something this awful, time does help to heal the wounds. There is not a day that goes by that I don't think of Officer Metzler, but I know he is watching over us. God Bless to the Freeto family and to all the officer's that are out there putting their life on the line for us every day. We love you.

Dwayne,,As I stood there yesterday morning on the Freeway looking at your car,, I recalled the days I saw you and your class at the academy,at the ropes course and of course when you graduated. I want you to know that your family will be taken care of because of what I saw those days. You have a strong class and as I met with them later in the day I was relieved to see how they have come together. They had the honor of raising and lowering the flag to half staff for you. Mayor Moncrief and Chief Mendoza are making sure that your family is cared for, that is our duty for you. We will hurt as we have in the past and we will honor your memory by going forward. While you time with us was short you shall forever be a member of the Thin Blue Line of Fort Worth, Honored and Respected for your Service to a Great City and a Great Department. God Bless Brother and Rest In Peace.

May peace be with your family and friends in the coming days and months. Like my brother, also a retired military veteran and deputy killed by a drunk driver, your life was taken by another person's stupid decision; however, your sacrifice was not in vain. The time you spent protecting your country and your community will be remembered.
My prayers will be with your family, friends and fellow officers.

On behalf of the Sterling Heights Police Department, I would like to extend our deepest sypathies. We know all too well the agony you are facing, as we lost one of our own, a probationary officer, in 2004. It matters not 9 months or 19 years, the pain is still the same. You must come together as a family and guide eachother. Stand by and turn to one another for comfort, for this tragedy will undoubtedly bring you closer.
Most importantly, be there for Dwayne's wife and children. There is no "family" like a "police family". Show them that they are bound with us by this Thin Blue Line.
God Bless all of you!
