Reflections for Officer Dwayne N. Freeto

To Mr. Dwayne Freeto's Family...when I heard that an officer lost his life on Sunday it brought back so many memories of last year. I never had the pleasure of meeting Officer Freeto.. but my husband did. The first words that came out of his mouth were" not Freeto, he was a funny guy with a smile always on his face." My husband was an instructor while your husband, son, brother, and daddy was in the acadamy. When my husband came home one day with two shots under his arm.. I told him "you need to slow it down on the officer survival.. you keep getting hurt." He had a smile yesterday after we left the viewing of Dwayne.. and I asked what he was smiling about.. and he said "during officer survival you know I wear all of my pads all over so I wont get hit.. well Mr. Dwayne Freeto was able to shoot me twice right under the armpit where I had no pad!" We both smiled and laughed.. and we thought to ourselves.. "He probably had that smile we see on the pictures when he did it!" He said, Yup!- Yes he did!

Matthew 5:9
Blessed are the peacemakers: for they shall be called the children of God.

I take comfort in this bible verse Officer Freeto, for I know you are a child of the most high God, rest in peace, you deserve it!

Fayette County Sheriffs' Office (Ky)

Officer Freeto, you were just trying to keep someone safe and as it turned out, you did. Had you not been there, that ‘person’ who killed you might have killed the person with the flat tire. The person with the flat tire was saved by your selfless act and I hope they fully appreciate your sacrifice.

My heart goes out to all who know and love you as this is a horrible time for them. My prayers go out also to the off duty detective who risked his life in an effort to save you. You are both true heroes and I pray he has a speedy recovery.

God Bless and may you Rest in Peace, Brother.

Don't cry because you think I'm gone,
for I am with you still.
Don't seek reasons to explain
what is simply just God's will.

It's very hard to leave all of you
and everything I've known,
but my work on earth is done now.
Our Lord has called me home.

I know you will find comfort
Just let faith guide your way.
Cause, from the moment I was born,
I have been preparing for this day.

Remember me for the laughter,
that's the greatest gift we give.
Keep me in your heart and mind
because that's where I now live.

If ever you feel you need me,
you can close your eyes and see,
I'm still right here with you,
I'm alive in your memory.

El Paso County Sheriff's Office

The policeman stood and faced God,
Which must always come to pass.
He hoped his shoes were shining,
Just as brightly as his brass.

"Step forward now, policeman.
How shall I deal with you?
Have you always turned the other cheek?
To my church have you been true?"

The policeman squared his shoulders and said,
"No lord, I guess I ain't,
Because those of us who carry a badge
can't always be a saint."

I've had to work most Sundays,
and at times my talk was rough,
and sometimes I've been violent,
Because the streets are awfully tough.

But I never took a penny,
That wasn't mine to keep
Though I worked a lot of overtime
When the bills got just too steep.

And I never passed a cry for help,
Though at time I shook with fear.
And sometimes, God forgive me,
I've wept unmanly tears.

I know I don't deserve a place
Among the people here.
They never wanted me around
Except to calm their fear.

If you've a place for me here, Lord,
It needn't be so grand.
I never expected or had too much,
But if you don't I'll understand.

There was a silence all around the throne
Where the saints had often trod.
As the policeman waited quietly,
For the judgement of his god.

"Step forward now, policeman,
You've born your burdens well.
Come walk a beat on Heaven's streets,
You've done your time in hell"

Deputy Armando Valdez
El Paso County Sheriff's Office

Officer Freeto,

I would like to thank you for being such a wonderful father, husband and officer. I am so sorry your life had to end so soon. Thank you for all your hard work while working the streets.

To the family of Officer Freeto,

From my family to yours , you are in our prayers. I can truly say i know what your family is going through. My dad was killed in the line of duty back in 1992 by a drunk driver and to this day my heart still hurts for him. To know that both of them are in the presence of God brings peace to me and it should to you as well. Please keep your head held high and when your down turn to him. He will guide you and help you along the way. Thanks for allowing us to have such a wonderful man work the streets in Fort Worth, and now both him and my dad are working them in heaven. God Bless you and your family

PS. Officer Freeto, please give my dad a big ol Texas hug for me. Thanks

Dwayne, I wanted to post this second tribute, it touched me lastnight while I worked traffic on Hwy 171. I stopped in at PR's Country Store in Covington, and a little boy about 8 years old came up to me and said "Do you know Officer Freeto, he was such a nice man" I told him I didn't know you personally, but you were a fellow brother in blue, and he reached into his pocket and pulled out your memorial tribute, speaking very highly of you and your daughters. His sister also spoke very highly of your children. You made an impression on the lives of these two children, and they wanted you to know and your children to know they love you and "Are very sorry about your accident"

Covington is only about 8 miles from Grandview, you made a difference to many, I am so sorry that your time was too brief here.

God Bless You, Your Family and The Fort Worth Police Department...What a loss,,
