Leave a Reflection

Reflections for Sergeant Michael William Larson

Many of us here in Richmond Hill remember the time you spent with the local children, this includes my nephew Austin. Austin's mother Patricia Hiers (my sister) lost her fiance in a very simular situation 3 weeks ago. Deputy Sheriff Dennis Wright from Effingham county. The two of you are now together, and although you will surely be missed here with us, its comforting to know you are up there keeping an eternal watch on those of us you left behind. Thank you for serving and always doing your best, you are the true hero's. We love and miss you so very much. My deepest respect and reguards go to your family this holiday season. Christmas has changed for me this year, and for my family. The meaning has returned to us and since Dennis's death we have opened our hearts more to the lord, he is helping us through this time, I hope the same for your family, because by being closer to God, makes us feel closer to Dennis in some way. He is still with us, as I know you are with your loved ones. To your family, I send love, prayers, and the belief that one day they will see Mike again...in a place where there is no sickness, crime, or even death, but a place to live and be together with out any fear...forever and ever! :)
God Bless,
Marlene Faris

MIKE,

YOU HAVE LEFT A HOLE IN OUR DEPARTMENT WHICH CAN NEVER BE FILLED. YOU WERE A FRIEND TO ALL WHO NEEDED YOU AND COULD ALWAYS BE COUNTED ON TO BE THERE IF SOMEONE NEEDED YOU. YOU NEVER LET THE PEOPLE YOU WORKED WITH DOWN. YOU HAD A SENSE OF HUMOR AND PERSONALITY THAT WILL BE MISSED BY ALL WHO KNEW YOU. YOU HAD A STRONG DEDICATION TO FAMILY, WORK, AND FRIENDS. THE ONE THING YOU ALWAYS SPOKE OF WAS BEING ABLE TO GET YOUR HELICOPTER AND FLY, NOW ALL WHO KNEW YOU KNOW YOU ARE FLYING NOW AND ARE TRULY HAPPY WITH NO MORE WORRIES OR PAIN. MAY YOU REST IN PEACE AND GOD WATCH OVER YOUR FAMILY BECAUSE WE KNOW YOU ARE.

To the family, friends, and officers that knew Deputy Sheriff Larsen, my thoughts and prayers are with you as you face the trying times ahead of you. Please know your not alone.

Here I am, lost in the light of the moon that comes through my window
Bathed in blue, the walls of my memory divide the thorns from the roses
It's you and the roses

Touch me and I will follow in your afterglow
Heal me from all this sorrow
As I let you go I will find my way when I see your eyes
Now I'm living in your afterglow

Here I am, lost in the ashes of time, but who wants tomorrow?
In between the longing to hold you again
I'm caught in your shadow, I'm losing control
My mind drifts away, we only have today

Touch me and I will follow in your afterglow
Heal me from all this sorrow
As I let you go I will find my way
I will sacrifice 'til the blinding day when I see your eyes
Now I'm living in your afterglow

When the veils are gone as I let you go, as I let you go

Touch me and I will follow in your afterglow
Heal me from all this sorrow
As I let you go I will find my way, I will sacrifice
Now I'm living in your afterglow

Bathed in blue, the walls of my memory divide the thorns from the roses
It's you who is closest

When God Made Peace Officers
Unknown Author
When the Lord was creating peace officers, he was into his sixth day of overtime when an angel appeared and said, "You're doing a lot of fiddling around on this one"

And the Lord said, "Have you read the spec on this order?" A peace officer has to be able to run five miles through alleys in the dark, scale walls, enter homes the health inspector wouldn't touch, and not wrinkle his uniform."

He has to be able to sit in an undercover car all day on a stakeout, cover a homicide scene that night, canvass the neighborhood for witnesses and testify in court the next day."

He has to be in top physical condition at all times, running on black coffee and half-eaten meals. And he has to have six pairs of hands."

The angel shook her head slowly and said, "Six pairs of hands...no way."

"It's not the hands that are causing me problems." said the Lord, "It's the three pairs of eyes an officer has to have."

"That's on the standard model?" asked the angel.

The Lord nodded. "One pair that sees through the bulge in a pocket before he asks, 'May I see what's in there sir?' (When he already knows and wishes he'd taken that accounting job.) Another pair here in the side of the head for his partner's safety. And another pair of eyes here in the front that can look reassuringly at a bleeding victim and say. 'You'll be all right ma'am.' When he knows it isn't so."

"Lord," said the angel, touching his sleeve, "rest and work on this tomorrow."

"I can't" said the Lord, "I already have a model that can talk a 250 pound drunk into a patrol car without incident, and feed a family of five on a civil service pay check."

The angel circled the model of the peace officer very slowly. "Can it think?" she asked.

"You bet." said the Lord. "It can tell you the elements of a hundred crime scenes; recite Miranda warnings in his sleep; detain, investigate, search, and arrest a gang member on the street in less time than it takes five learned judges to debate the legality of the stop...and still keeps its sense of humor."

"This officer also has phenomenal personal control. He can deal with crime scenes painted in hell; coax a confession from a child abuser; comfort a murder victim's family; and then read in the daily paper how law enforcement isn't sensitive to the rights of criminal suspects."

Finally, the angel bent over and ran her fingers across the cheek of the peace officer. "There's a leak." She pronounced. "I told you that you are trying to put to much in this model."
"That's not a leak," said the Lord, "it's a tear."
"What's the tear for?" asked the angel.
"It's for bottled-up emotions; for fallen comrades; for commitment to that funny piece of metal called his badge; for justice."
"You're a genius." said the angel.
The Lord looked somber. "I didn't put it there." he said.
Here in Colorado, yesterday, we laid another officer to rest. So sad, and he was also taken from us to early, but I know that God must have a plan for these officers to be taken from us so early in their lives.
To the family, loved ones, and brothers and sisters who wear the badge of law enforcement we share your sorrow.
God bless you all.

Mike,
Your selfless service to the community will be missed by all.I recall a time when a suspected murder suspect was being chased into our town by another agency. You again showed your selflessness when you place your unit in the path of the suspect ending the chase and apprehension of the suspect. This is just one of the selfless acts the you have done for all of us.You will be missed by the guys in C.I.D. and John.

Deputy Larsen, you were well known to me and to all Richmond Hill residents as a fair, kind and highly professional law enforcement officer. You protected my family and me from a dangerous criminal on one occasion in particular. I owe you a debt of gratitude for that. I pray that you rest in eternal peace. May your family, friends and collegues be comforted at this time. Our community has lost a fine, honorable deputy who we can never replace.
