Sgt~

Being the newest rookie on the beat for BC, I hadn't had the opportunity to get to know you well. However, in the short time that we did share in passing, it was obvious that you had a dedication that ran deep in your soul. The TRUE dedication that makes us all brothers. Rest in peace brother-blue... we'll take it from here.

"Blessed are the peacemakers; for they shall be called the children of God." ~Matthew 5:9~

This is my Shield.

I bear it before me into battle,
But it is not mine alone.

It protects my brother on my left.
It protects my city.

I will never let my brother out of its shadow
nor my city out of its shelter.

I will die with my shield before me
facing the enemy.

To the family Sergeant Michael Larson:

I did not know Sergeant Michael Larson. However, I know someone who did and who often talked about him. Sergeant Michael Larson performed his duties at a level of performance, which new Officers looked up to and strived for. Old Officers were proud to say they worked with him and still learned how to perform their duties to the perfection of Sergeant Larson. Even though I have never met him, he is still a brother and it truly saddens me to learn of this tragedy of such an exemplary Person and Law Enforcement Officer. I am deeply sorry for your loss, which is not only felt by your community but also felt by every person who puts the badge on and wishes we could perform our duties to the level of honor and integrity that Sergeant Michael Larson performed his. Your family is in our thoughts and prayers.

The Policeman stood and faced his God,
Which must always come to pass.
He hoped his shoes were shining as brightly as his brass.
“Step forward now, officer. How shall I deal with you?
Have you always turned the other cheek?
To my Church have you been true?”
The officer squared his shoulders and said,
“No, Lord, I guess I ain’t.
Cause those of us who carry badges can’t always be a saint.
But I never took a penny that wasn’t mine to keep,
Though I worked a lot of overtime when the bills just got too steep.
And I never passed a cry for help, though at times I shook with fear.
And sometimes, God forgive me, I wept unmanly tears.
I know I don’t deserve a place among the people here.
They never wanted me around except to calm their fear.
If you’ve a place for me here, Lord, it needn’t be so grand.
I’ve never expected or had too much.
But if you don’t, I’ll understand.”
There was silence all around the throne where the saints had often trod.
As the officer waited quietly for the answer of his God.
“Step forward now, Officer, you’ve borne your burdens well.
Come walk a beat on Heaven’s Streets. You’ve done your time in Hell.”

Management posted a memo about everything, I read it monday morning when I came in for coffee before school. I couldn't put name and face together. I realized it half way through the school day. Woah. I'm still young, and death is really weird for me to think about. Graveyard shift at Denny's will miss you.

Mike,
"Greater love has no one than this, that he lay down his life for his friends."
John 15:13

Policeman's Prayer to St. Michael
St. Michael, Heaven's glorious Commissioner of Police, who once so neatly and successfully cleared God's premises of all its undesirables, look with kindly and professional eye on your earthly force.

Give us cool heads, stout hearts, hard punches, an uncanny flair for investigation and wise judgement.

Make us the terror of burglars, the friend of children and law-abiding citizens, kind to strangers, polite to bores, strict with law breakers and impervious to temptations.

You know, St. Michael, from your own experiences with the devil that the policeman's lot on earth is not always a happy one; but your sense of duty that so pleased God, your hard knocks that so suprised the devil, and your angelic self-control give us your inspiration.

And when we lay down our night sticks, enroll us in your Heavenly Force, where we will be as proud to guard the throne of God, as we have been the city of men. Amen.

We have had a lot of good times at work and away from work. It has been an honor to work beside you and to be able to call you a friend and a brother. I will miss you dearly and it will just not be the same around Bryan County without you. God bless you and your family during this tragic time and I will see you again.

Mike my friend you will be truly missed. I can remember all your help when i was first learning my codes. You were nice enough to let me wear you jacket when i was freezing and everyone else was burning up. You helped me through EMT school. I can remember babysitting your two oldest children before you married your wonderful wife (who i knew before you). I certainly wish i could hear you go S-16 with your starting mileage just one more time. I will miss you terribly, thanks for being such a wonderful friend and officer.
