When I reflect on Mike's life, I quite naturally remember things he did as he grew up as well as his accomplishments as an adult. When he was three, he became afraid of "monasters" (monsters) in his closet, which were banished by a healthy spray of room deodorizer. When we lived in Muncie, IN, and I was in college, he was thoroughly incensed that he was mistaken for a girl (his curly hair was peeking out of the hood on his winter coat, which promptly caused him to cut his hair short). We also had fun playing ball with Meiko, our cat, who would capture, then sit on, the ball we'd roll between us. In high school, Mike loved ROTC and was excited to go to his first weekend camp--where he got stung by a scorpion and ended up at the hospital. Playing tricks on his sisters and me was always top on his list of things to do. When we lived in Cape Coral, FL, he loved to go outside at night when I was washing dishes at the kitchen sink and put his face up against the window in front of me, scaring the bejeebers out of me. After he'd gone through flight school, his sister Amy and I, went to his graduation where I got to pin his wings onto his uniform. He enjoyed the two years he spent singing in the Army chorus, even coming to Orlando with the chorus once during this time. Mike was very proud of the fact that he could serve as a trainer during his time with the Sheriff's Office, and loved his work. Whether during his time in the 82nd Airborne, as a Green Beret, or during the time he was a deputy, he took great pride in his work and his sisters and I have always been proud of his accomplishments. You did well, son. Love, Mom

Lisa and family,
Words cannot express how we feel about the loss of Michael. He has been a wonderful friend to my family. The kids we surely miss him up at the skating rink. He was the off duty officer that would actually skate and take up time with the children who came to skate at the recreation gym. I did not know this until recently, because he never told me the rate changed for off duty officers. When I asked him about it, he replied he just wanted to do something to help give the children of Richmond Hill something to do. He was not there to make alot of money, just give back to the community. My family will miss our nights going to Denny's after skating. Lisa would come up to the skating rink and just start working and helping out were ever needed. The Larson family, is the kind of people we need in our community. Michael, I still think you are going to call and ask me when are we going to start skating again, and I would reply, I thought we both were giving it up. But, we knew we would be there. I'll play an old song just for you. Lisa, anytime you need us, you know where we are. We will always be here for you.
Sincerely,
Kathy and Eric Cooper/Richmond Hill

Mike, my listener, my encourager, teacher and pest. I enjoyed coming to work for the last three years with you being right next door. when I needed help with my computer, with my homework or someone to listen to me you were there. I'll never forget all the times you pestered me cause you knew the code to my Mercury (cause it was one time your car)by opening all four doors, the trunk and sliding the seat back so I couldn't reach the pedals. I'll miss you. Hope to see you again one day. Suzy

Son, You have made our family proud, by the way you conducted your life and your love for your job. The dedication to protecting and serving the people you vowed to serve and protect was of the highest. It was an honor as a father to hear the praises of your fellow officers and citizens of those you served. You were serving as God's servent and served him well. I believe that God decided your work for him was complete and now has called you home to be with him and at final pease. You left a big impact on those who knew you, your fellow officers, friends, those you assisted in your capicity as a law officer and I pray that your impact on them will carry on, the compassion and love of life that you left on their hearts. Altho your loss to us is hard, but knowing how you serve your country and community and the immpact that you had on others has made it a lot easier. You answered your God's call, now you are rewarded. For Lisa and my grandchildren my prayers are with you always. Love you all, May God bless and protect you.

MIKEEE MAN,
I MISS YOU ALREADY. IT WAS AN HONOR TO BE YOUR PARTNER WHEN I FIRST STARTED WITH BCSO. YOU TAUGHT ME MUCH MORE THAN THE ACADEMY EVER DID. I FELT A GREAT SENSE OF LOSS WHEN YOU LEFT THE ROAD AND WENT INTO INVESTIGATIONS, BUT IT PALES IN COMPARISON TO THE LOSS I FEEL NOW. YOUR VOICE IS STILL ON MY PHONE AT THE OFFICE WHEN I RETREIVE MESSAGES, AND IT SAYS "DETECTIVE LARSON." IT WILL REMAIN THERE AS LONG AS I DO. THANKS FOR YOUR UNSELFISH DEDICATION AND HOURS OF YOUR OWN TIME YOU GAVE TO HELP US BROTHERS IN ARMS.MISS YOU MUCH AND HOPE TO SEE YOU AGAIN SOMEDAY...MICKEY

Lisa and family,
Wow, what an awful night that was. I was one of Mike's dispatchers that night. Mike and I had just talked on the phone before the accident. He had me and my partner Linda laughing and was cracking us up. I looked forward to working with Mike every day. I have never met anyone so professional than him. He was not only a good husband and father but a fabulous cop and a wonderful friend to me. He truely touched my daughter's and my heart. He did so many little things to help me out in my day to day life. Its been almost 6 yrs I worked with Mike and he will not be forgotten. I wish I could have attended the services with my daughter but I had to work. But what little bit I saw on the news was beautiful and touching. I can't seem to get past his laugh, smile and all around good attitude. I want to thank his parents for raising such a fine man with the best manners and respect for other people. I will miss seeing him at work, hearing him on the radio and phone. He was honest and trusted and never crossed the line. My heart goes out to you, your children and your family.

I still can't believe you are gone. There are no words to express how much this hurts and how much we will miss you.
You would have loved the flyover by the Blackhawk at your services. I know you were looking down and thinking "Hell yeah, that's cool". Your family, friends and fellow officers did you proud. Your friend Mike Maxwell gave us some good moments to remember and I had to think "That's so typically Mike" when he spoke of your Pringles radar gun.
You were my big brother. My only brother. I remember times through the years when I yanked your chain just to annoy you - now I realize how much we were alike as you use to do the same. :o) I miss you so much. You were not only a hero in your service to our country and to your community. You will always be the hero that lifted me over the puddles when we were little kids.
I hope you are at peace and know that there are hundreds of people ~ friends, family and fellow officers ~ whose lives you touched and who will never forget you. I miss you Mikey.

SARGE,
THERE IS NO OTHER PERSON I WOULD HAVE WANTED TO BE MY SERGEANT. I WILL NEVER FORGET GOING TO PARKERS AND GETTING A CUP OF COFFEE OR MEETING AT DENNYS LATE AT NIGHT TO GET A CUP OF JOE. WE HAD JUST LEFT EACH OTHER THAT NIGHT AND I AM HONORED TO HAVE SPENT THE LAST FEW MINUTES WITH YOU. YOU WERE ALWAYS THERE FOR ME WHEN I WOULD DO A TRAFFIC STOP AND YOU WERE ALWAYS THERE TO GIVE ME ADVICE. THANK YOU FOR TAKING ME UNDER YOUR WING AND SHOWING ME HOW THE JOB SHOULD BE PERFORMED AND HANDLED WITH PROFESSIONALISM. YOUR SHIFT WILL MISS YOU DEEPLY AND NO ONE WILL EVER REPLACE YOU.
