Reflections for Officer Steve Bastidas Favela
Steve,
I am talking to my wife as I type, I told her if I died in an escort (which we did today), not to be sad, be happy because, I know you died doing what you loved doing, I would died doing what I love. Peace brother. Watch over me.
P.S. I know that if it thunders in the sky, that it will be you escort God.

Without the help of local law enforcement we could not protect those we are charged to protect. It is not how Officer Favela died that made him a hero, it is how he lived, and we thank him for his sacrifice.

Our deepest sympathy goes out to the family of Officer Steve Favela and the Hawaii Police Department. May the Lord give you comfort during this difficult time. Please know that a lot of people are grieving with you and praying for you. We hope that with so many people sharing in your sorrow it will lessen the pain you all must be feeling at this time.
We ourselves are still trying to come to terms with the loss of our son, Officer Lito Barber of Seattle Police Department. It is a nightmare that we are still trying to wake up from. Incidentally, let me take this opportunity to extend our appreciation to the HPD especially to Chaplain Larry Kelky and Avery Choy who provided us comfort and assistance during our interrupted vacation that fateful day of August 13, 2006. They were very generous in giving us their time to give us comfort when we learned of our son’s death.
Condolence from the Barber Family

ITS SOUNDS LIKE THUNDER FAR AWAY...
It sounds like thunder far away, but the skies are blue and bright...
And soon they crest the hill nearby, and ride into our sight.
They shake the ground with powerful sound, and they make some hearts beat fast...
They look so proud and noble, like Knights come from the past.
Side by side, they always ride, and seem to move as one...
From early in the morning light, to the setting of the sun.
And children point and wave to them, from cars that pass them by...
And young ones ask their parents, why the men have mirrors for eyes.
They ride the roads, and fight for good, and defend small ones like you...
They ask to ride, and do with pride, and sometimes they are few.
Like men of steel, on Silver Wings, they sparkle in the light...
then with a roar and rumble, they ride out of our sight.
Sometimes when one has fallen, never to ride again...
You can hear the others calling, like thunder on the wind.
Side by side, they slowly ride, and their thunder is a mournful sound...
And the mirrors hide their eyes from us, when teardrops fall to ground.
So if you see one riding, and you look into his face...
You see your reflection in his eyes, you know that you are safe.
For motormen are a special breed, they love to ride the wind...
And when you hear the thunder boom, the fallen ones ride again.

I was hoping this day wasn't going to come. I can't believe your picture is on this page. It is a shock, a gut wrenching pain.
You were the perfect man. Your first priority was your family, then this job. I remember how you would "beam" a smile talking about your wife and children. The last time I spoke with you, I hadn't seen you in a while. I asked: "So how many kids you got now?" You said with the brightest grin a person could have: "Three and one on the way. Yeah, we trying to make the Brady Bunch." Then you giggled. Your family life, your parents, your profession, anyone would envy what you had and were. Now we will be suffering one of the greatest losses ever. Anyone that knew you knows what I mean.
I am going to miss you. I pray for Barb, your parents, siblings and your so very young kids. May the Lord lead you into his Kingdom and bless your soul.
