Officer Favela,
Our family grieves with your wife and children as they adjust to their new reality. Our prayers are with them and your fellow officers, friends, family members, and the Honolulu community. You will not be forgotten. God speed, sir.

When he fell, we held our breath...and then heard he was in Queens in critical but holding. Hours and then days went by and we believed he'd recover. Our hearts hurt when we heard he lost his leg...but we still thought he'd be trudging through and we'll just band together around him! And then...
the morning of November 26, 2006 came....and the blue line (2000+ strong)on Oahu wept. And word spread and the rest of the blue on our islands and the mainland (and world wide) wept with us.
As I sat in my garage with my husband (both of us HPD)watching him doing his thing around the home, he received a call from another former solo bike officer telling us that Ofcr. FAVELA didn't make it and had passed away. My heart just broke (and I know my husband's did, too, as well as the former solo bike officer who delivered the news) and I cried. I sat there and looked around my home--at my husband, my children, my everything, and all I could think of was Steve's wife. How I could gaze upon my husband and children and this wonderful wife of Steve's was probably at home, screaming in her head with memories and the sheer volume of consoling her babies and family, and all the while having to plan the funeral of her beloved. Sistah, to you I say that I can not say how you feel at this time. But I do feel you. And...I can say that you have thousands of hearts and minds behind you, every step of the way.
Braddah Steve...You the man. My husband held call sign #3846 for the five years before you went to Solo Bike and his heart just breaks thinking of your passing...so soon after his good friend, Ryan Goto. I think all of us, especially here in HPD, whether we know each other or not...there's a kinship that cannot be broken. We, each of us, know where we came from. How hard the walk is...the going there...the getting there...the continued walk...that just bonds us like nothing else.
I hear constantly at the station about your smile and your pride in your family and what a genuinely nice, humble, and kind man you were. Although you were just one class after me, I will always regret not having known you in person. But, brother, did you eva have one awesome class! Your classmates, in my career, have been a laugh and a privilege to work with with the guys I have had, again, the privilege to work with. Your sergeant from recruit school...I know must be feeling your loss like a blow to her heart. She (and your class supervisors--Kaleo, Dawn, Kevin, and Mark) raised you well in the department and I'm sure you made her proud.
Our heartfelt condolences to your family and may God bless them all on this hard journey.
...It's not all over,
It's just begun.
This is not my final tune,
I'll sing a new song.
It's not all over,
I'm not really alone.
My time on earth is ending...
Now, I'm going home.
God keep you, always, brother. Until later, 10-8 for now.
Your braddah and sistah in HPD

"I answer the heroic question 'Death, where is thy sting?' with 'It is here in my heart and mind and memories.'" -- Maya Angelou
I knew little of this great servant of God who has been called Home to Heaven to be with his Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ. Yet, I will NEVER forget for the rest of my life, the men and women who put their lives on the line each and every day to secure our freedom and protect us from harm. Officer Steve Favela made the final sacrifice, he lost his life in the line of duty while protecting the President of the United States.
To Mrs. Barbara Favela, her precious young children, to the Favela `Ohana, and to the Honolulu Police Department, I wish you love and peace beyond all understanding.

Let the sunshine keep shining lightly onto your face,
May the clouds shield, cool you from the harsh weather for the long journey ahead; the rain refresh you when parched.
And may the wind be steady to your back to guide you safely homeward.

To Steve's Parents, Brothers, and Sister:
My heart and thoughts are with you as you deal with the loss of your son and brother. He was an exceptional individual who touched many lives including my own. He lived his life right and you should be very proud of him. Thank you for sharing him with us if even for a brief moment. It has meant a lot to me and many others.

Bruddah Steve and Family,
I am still in shock over this. I can't believe your gone. I can still remember "Field Trips" and "Da S.K.A.M. Plan". Seems like just yesterday. All it took was one semester in high school and we were life long buddies. Like a brother I never had. It's been a while since we've talked. I've always had your number but always thought that tomorrow would come another opportunity. I guess I can't help but to miss the boat again. I am proud to have known you and been able to call you my friend. You will forever be in my heart and live on in my memories. Until we meet again my buddy. You will be missed. R.I.P.
-"Beefcake"
To Barbara and the kids: My heart is with you and you have my sincerest condolences. If there is anything that I can do to help, do not hesitate to ask. Cherish each other every moment of everyday like there is no tomorrow. I think Steve will be smiling.
To GOD: Take care of my buddy, Steve until the rest of us get there. Amen.

I remember Steve when I was assigned to the Honolulu Police Training Academy. I remember him as a quiet man with so much potential. Your family grieves as we all do, with so much pain and sorrow but we can take comfort knowing you are in a better place. Until we meet again, may the wind be in your face and the sun on your back, Ride on.

If we could bring you back again,
For one more hour or day,
We'd express all our unspoken love;
We'd have countless things to say.
If we could bring you back again,
We'd say we treasured you,
And that your presence in our lives
Meant more than we ever knew.
If we could bring you back again,
To tell you what we should,
You'd know how much we miss you now,
And if we could, we would.

To the Favela family, my thoughts and prayers go out to you now and forever. I considered Steve one of my very best friends in high school, I cried like a baby when I saw him off to basic training. He kept telling me "No tears, no tears." I know how much his family meant to him even back then. There are so many memories that it is hard to choose which one to reflect on, they were ALL good. Steve gave his entire heart to the people he loved and I know that he will be sorely missed. The impact that he has had on my life as well as many, many others will be with us forever. Thank you God for allowing us to borrow one of your angels.

Officer Favela,
It is well known throughout the Secret Service that the success of a protective detail is due in large part of the help and cooperation of our local police counterparts. The sacrafice that you have made, was done so in ensuring the sucess of the recent visit Of the President to Honolulu. Your sacrifice will never be forgotten! You will forever be in our thoughts and prayers as will be your family and co-workers. Watch over us in the law enforcement community so that we will have the strength and commitment to perform our duties to the best of our abilities. Rest in Peace!!
