Reflections for Detective Kevin Shumway Orr
Dear Uncle Kevin,
Today I was telling a co-worker about you and what happened that tragic day. I told him how you were such a hero to so many people and many other good things. Well, it wasn't long before I had to stop myself so that I didn't break down in the middle of work and start bawling. Man, it is still so hard. When I got the call from my mission president to call home because there had been an accident, my heart stopped. I was bracing myself for a heavy blow. He then said that you had died in said accident. My heart seemed to jump out of my body. I felt numb as I dialed my mom's number. I was in a small booth inside of a small store for long distance calls. My first thoughts were completely toward Holly and the kids. I couldn't believe it. Aunt Lisa answered and then I spoke to mom, and then to Quinn. Everything had already happened. Your accident, hospitalization, death, funeral, and burial. It was horribly surreal to me. I couldn't accept it. I briefly questioned my belief of the Plan of Salvation and what happens after this life. It was due to the shock and sadness I felt. Of course after much prayer and pondering, the Lord reaffirmed for me in the strongest way, that the Plan is real and though I didn't get to say goodbye or see you that last moment before closure of the casket and burial, I will still get to see you again. It wasn't until Memorial Day of maybe 2007 that I finally got to go to your grave and feel a small sense of closure, though I never COMPLETELY will. Thank you for your great example. I love you. I love your family. I miss you.
Love,
Skyeler

I miss you tons.
Life doesn't seem fair.
I wish you were here to help me with my problems.
Well not mine but I'm in the middle.
You would know what to do.
I wish you could be doing the assembly on drunk driving.
I want to see it.
I wish I could have gotten too.
There are so many things I wish I could go back and change or redo...
I miss you everyday Daddy.
I don't know how someone could say otherwise.
Daddy, I'm sorry. I try. But somethings that have been said/wrote are sooo hurtful.
You are my Daddy.
You were our everyday life.
And to this day... We still are missing that... You.
The only difference is we have accepted it.
Yes it is painfully hard but we just take life day by day.
We have to keep going.
We have no other choice.
I'm sorry again Daddy.
I hope you understand my feelings...
Anyway...
I love you tons Daddy.
Miss you muchly...

I miss you tons. Please watch over mom this week. And help her...
I'm "re"doing the picnic table... You had to paint it huh? O well. Its a bet actually. Mom said she didn't think I would ever finish it my the 23rd of this month. I think I will.
I can't believe I'm done with my freshman year. 3 full school years plus a half withour you here. I'm sooo glad you gave us a Father's Blessing before I started 6th grade in 06. So Next month I start my sophmore year at the High school. I wish more than anything... You could still be the officer there. Like you were for a while.
Daddy. I hope your proud of me. With the choices I'm making. Where I'm headed in life and just everything.
We watched Extreme home makeover last night. We hadn't for a while. But the girls had it on. The guy was in Iraq and they brought him home to spend a week with his family.
Well I guess thats it.
Love you lots...
Miss you too...

Sweetheart,
It has been 3 1/2 years today since I gave you a kiss and you kissed the girls and walked out the door. I wouldn't have let you go out the door if I would have known that you would not be coming home. I miss you so much. I love you with all my heart. I have since we meet and will forever. You had my heart the moment that we met.
I wish that it was different. I wish you were still here with us. Not a moment goes by that you are not in our thoughts.

You and all of your loved ones are in my thoughts on this special day, Police Officer Memorial Day. I know they carry a burning love for you in their broken hearts and will never let your memory die. Continue to watch over all of them.

A Gentleman offered this statement
as they laid my dad to rest,
"Today your dad's a Hero son,
and truly nothing less!"
Into his eyes I peered,
as the tears rolled gently down.
My response was kind and simple
the only words that could be found.
My dad was an officer
and a Hero every day.
He made this world a safer place
for you an...d me to stay.
A Hero who sadly offered
the news too hard to give.
A Hero who prevented tragedy,
allowing us to live.
A Hero you asked directions from
when lost or out of town.
A Hero who aided those in need,
allowing ease to get around.
A Hero who returned your child
when danger threatened near.
A Hero who protected freedom
so we'd have less to fear.
Yes, my dad was a Hero sir,
which he showed in every way.
But, today he is a Hero sir,
because of the price he had to pay.
Daddy, You will always be my hero.
Love you.

Happy Birthday My Dear Sweetheart Kevin.
I have watched the kids miss you so much the last (almost) 3 and a half years. I can honestly say that it is the hardest thing I have ever had to do. It is such a helpless feeling, to not be able to make them feel better. Because the only thing that would help would be you here and I can not bring you back. They have missed out on so much with not having you here. The kids friends and cousins have their dads. And our kids miss out so much. They miss out on a million things only a few being daddy daughter dates, father and son outings, vacations, going to church together are just few that so many people take for grant. Someone told me that kids bounce back easier than adults. But they sure have not been a kid that lost the most amazing dad. Because our kids miss you daily and I witness it all. They are such wonderful kids. Eveything they do they do to try to please you and make you proud of them. We have tried our very best to live our lifes to make you proud of us and live how you would want us to. I know with a doubt that you are proud of us. Please watch over our children and let them know that you are always their for them. I ask you that but I know that you do. We look so forward to the day when we are all together again and never have to be without you again. So for that we pray for our Saviors return and what a glorious reunion that will be. Until then I love you more than anything. You are the best husband and companion and my very best friend. I love you and wish you a very Happy Birthday in Heaven. With Love Forever, Holley
