You donned your uniform
put on your shield
as most every day you do
Then when called upon
to give the ultimate sacrifice
to the code you did stay true.
Our prayers are with you and yours at this time.

I never thought I'd say this, but I miss your stories, Joe! I am truly priveledged to have had the opportunity to work every day with you. Our substation will never be the same. You helped me through my first day on my own, up here, and every day since. You were never been too busy to help me through anything I needed. We all know you left the area every day on your drive home with a huge smile on your face because you loved your job so much. Knowing that, every day I drive by those marks on the canyon road, I can't help but smile too. An "East-side Regulator" you always will be! "Kern 9, in custody of Jesus...CODE 4"

My deepest thoughts and prayers are with Deputy Hudnall's wife, children, family, friends and co-workers. I was married to Alabama State Trooper Brian Nichols EOW 2/17/2002 and I am now married to Washington County Deputy Sheriff Aaron Carpenter. All of your COPS family is here for you and hurting for you. We all became a family when our loved ones became police officers and now we have even a stronger bond when one of our family members go down. We are here for you to help you along this journey you now have joined with us. God bless you all.

We just had the funeral for one from our Department today. The Hudnall family and Kern County SO will be in my thoughts and prayers over the coming days and months as you all try to heal from this tragic loss. I sit hear almost holding my breath as it has been 3 days since a LEO has lost his life in the line of duty...I know another one will be suddenly ripped from their loved ones any moment now.

Dad, I love you very much. I'm terribly sorry that I wasn't able to be at home to take care of Carrie and the boys when they heard the news, but as you know I'm stuck here in Chicago. I'm so glad that you were able to come and watch me graduate from Boot Camp those few days before the accident. It was the best weekend of my life. You needn't worry about the boys, I'll make sure they grow up knowing what kind of man their father was. I miss you so much already. You were always there for me, and I know that you'll always be with me now. Rest in peace father.

What a staggering loss. Joe, you were a true hunter who focused always on gett'in the bad guys. As one of your co-workers told me that almost daily at the end of your shift, you would find someone to hook-up and take to jail on your way home to Bakersfield through the canyon. You always keeping the public's safety and wellbeing in mind. You will be missed by all. Rest in peace brother.

We are so sorry to here about your tragic loss of your loved one. Our thoughts and prayers go out to you in support during this very difficult time. We wish we could be there in person to offer support. We know that sometimes there is little comfort that comes from words. As the holidays draw nearer remember those special moments you have shared together and the love you shared. Keep focused as you can on the memories and joyous times for these things may bring you comfort. Rely heavily on family, friends, and other law enforcement for support. Honor your fallen loved one, for their sacrifice will not be forgotten. Deputy Hudnall is a hero. He will live on through all of you forever.
