Reflections for Deputy Sheriff Brian Keith Tephford

My heart is sad and my eyes are filled with tears each time I hear that we have lost another fine young officer in The Line Of Duty. Deputy Tephford was doing what he loved to do and that was protecting and serving the communities he lived and worked in. Brave yound men and women like Brian are hard to come by. To Brian's family, friends, and co-workers may you find peace, strength and healing from helping one another during this very difficult time. May you find comfort in the arms of our Lord, I know I did. Your family will be in my prayers.

I don’t know what to say Brian. I had just got home and turned my radio off and started to get changed, I was going to meet my wife at a party. I tried to call you but you didnt answer. I called Okeefe and he told me what happened. I ran back inside and got dressed for work again. I sat on that perimeter until 0730 along with hundreds of other Deputies and Officers. Most of them like me heard about it when we got home and came on our time off. After I got cleared from the perimeter they put me on the crime scene, I just sat their staring at your car wondering why.

All of us in Tamarac are really hurting. Roll call yesterday was really rough, the Sheriff came in and spoke along with everyone else. It was hard to get myself together and go out on the road. There hasn’t been a minute that goes by where you are not on my mind. When I came over from Margate P.D. you were the first one I started talking to when I got assigned to charlie shift. I will miss going to Starbucks after roll call, nights at the hard rock and I will never forget the birthday party and you on your bike! I wish I would have gone and sat down with you when you asked me to go 40 with you earlier in the day. Unfortunately I had eaten earlier and we never think that something like that will happen.

We got some relief yesterday when they toned the air and asked for all available units to head down to Dania. I knew they had found the suspects. They were arrested a short time later.

You will be missed and never forgotten. I volunteered to go to the airport later in the week to pick up your family. I would be honored to spend some time with them and tell them about you. I am praying for you and your family and will do whatever I can to help them through this.

Rest in Peace brother we will take it from here.
