Reflections for Deputy Sheriff Brian Keith Tephford

Dear Brian:
Once again, and all too often, we have lost another brother officer from some senseless act of cowardice. And once again, another woman is left with broken dreams, alone, with three small children. Once again, and all too often, there are small children who will never again have the chance to play with Dad, kiss him good night, learn how to ride a bike. Once again, and all too often, a Mom is left hollow inside; that all her suffering for childbirth, and her hard work to raise a true icon, has been wiped away.
In the history of our great Nation, there have been many who would qualify as a hero, and you, Brian, are among them. Hopefully, when our fellow countrymen hear and read of our loss, they will come to believe how serious we, the police are, about the oath, "To serve and protect". But Brian, although you made the supreme sacrifice, you are not dead. You will NEVER be allowed to die, as your memory, your sacrifice, your dedication shall live on for all eternity.
Brian, justice WILL be served, and the suspect will face certain punishment...both here and in a better place. But for you, Brian, you can rest easy with our Heavenly Father, as you patrol the streets of Heaven. You have made every one of us who wears a badge, proud, yet heartbroken. Your sacrifice is another price that we the police make, to guarantee our countrymen that they shall live free...free from fear, free from persecution, free from crime. You Brian, have helped to fulfill the dream that our forefathers has 230 years ago.
May your family's grief be shortlived, may your children always know that they, too, are a part of all of us, forever; and your wife need only ask, and our fraternity, the greatest in the world, will br glad to help with whatever it is. And to your Mom, thank you for making this world a better place for giving us Brian. Amen

To the family:

The Monument

I never dreamed it would be me
My name for all eternity
Recorded here at this hallowed place
Alas, my name, no more my face.

"In the line of duty" I hear them say
My family now the price will pay
My folded flag stained with their tears
We only had those few short years.

The badge no longer on my chest
I sleep now in eternal rest
My sword I pass to those behind
And pray they keep this thought in mind.

I never dreamed it would be me
And with heavy heart and bended knee
I ask for all here from the past
Dear God, let my name be the last.

I have only been with the FPPD since January 2006, however, being an army brat, I understand "brotherhood." I can only imagine how broken hearted all of you must be at this time. In the short time I have been with this agency I have come to consider many of the officers and fellow employees "family" and I know that as time passes these feelings will only deepen. When an officer is killed in the line of duty a little of your heart dies too.

Please extend my heartfelt condolences to Deputy Tephford's wife, children, family, co-workers, and friends during this time of sorrow. I will keep all of you in my thoughts and prayers.

With deepest sympathy,

Brian,

It hurt to hear of another fallen officer. I was working the night of the incident and as soon as the B.O.L.O came out over the radio every one of us working the road in Miramar wanted to go help on the perimeter to find the shooter. I'm so glad to hear that the shooter has been caught as well as the two who helped. You and your family are will be in my prayers. May you rest in peace brother.
