Reflections for Investigator David Michael Petzold
Blessed are the peacemakers: for they shall be called the
children of God.
Dispatcher Ted Smith
Martin, TN Police Dept.

I am a 15 year old Sophomore at Southern Lehigh High School. My dad was Daves best friend and they had worked together for about six years until my dad left the police force. Dave was someone people idolized and kids looked up to. He treated me like his own son. My familly and I were very close and all of us will miss him very much AND YOU WILL NEVER BE FORGOTTEN.
I will miss you and i promise to be like a brother to Sarah, Samantha, and little Johnathan.

On behalf of my family and myself, we offer our deepest condolence to the Petzold family and the Upper Township Police Department. Mere words cannot express the feelings of grief and compassion that is felt for the family, the department, and the entire community at this time of great saddness. This sacrifice is testimony to the extreme dedication that Investigator Petzold had for his work and the community in which he served.
Please know that you are not suffering alone. Members of the brotherhood have a tear in our eye and feel heaviness in our hearts. We mourn along side you and wish you all a sense of peace and tranquilty in this trobled time.
Gods peace....

Lehigh County Adult Probation and Parole

To all the family, loved ones, friends and all who wear the badge of law enforcment. Even though we are here to leave our thoughts and prayers, we are not from any law enforcement organization. We care alot for all who protect us and keep us safe no matter what their job was. I read these every morning and am sadden to see so many lives we have lost just like all the military we are losing.
Our prayers and sympathies go out to all of you and you will be remembered as HEROES.....GOD BLESS YOU ALL
"When God Made Peace Officers"
Unknown Author
When the Lord was creating peace officers, he was into his sixth day of overtime when an angel appeared and said, "You're doing a lot of fiddling around on this one"
And the Lord said, "Have you read the spec on this order?" A peace officer has to be able to run five miles through alleys in the dark, scale walls, enter homes the health inspector wouldn't touch, and not wrinkle his uniform."
He has to be able to sit in an undercover car all day on a stakeout, cover a homicide scene that night, canvass the neighborhood for witnesses and testify in court the next day."
He has to be in top physical condition at all times, running on black coffee and half-eaten meals. And he has to have six pairs of hands."
The angel shook her head slowly and said, "Six pairs of hands...no way."
"It's not the hands that are causing me problems." said the Lord, "It's the three pairs of eyes an officer has to have."
"That's on the standard model?" asked the angel.
The Lord nodded. "One pair that sees through the bulge in a pocket before he asks, 'May I see what's in there sir?' (When he already knows and wishes he'd taken that accounting job.) Another pair here in the side of the head for his partner's safety. And another pair of eyes here in the front that can look reassuringly at a bleeding victim and say. 'You'll be all right ma'am.' When he knows it isn't so."
"Lord," said the angel, touching his sleeve, "rest and work on this tomorrow."
"I can't" said the Lord, "I already have a model that can talk a 250 pound drunk into a patrol car without incident, and feed a family of five on a civil service pay check."
The angel circled the model of the peace officer very slowly. "Can it think?" she asked.
"You bet." said the Lord. "It can tell you the elements of a hundred crime scenes; recite Miranda warnings in his sleep; detain, investigate, search, and arrest a gang member on the street in less time than it takes five learned judges to debate the legality of the stop...and still keeps its sense of humor."
"This officer also has phenomenal personal control. He can deal with crime scenes painted in hell; coax a confession from a child abuser; comfort a murder victim's family; and then read in the daily paper how law enforcement isn't sensitive to the rights of criminal suspects."
Finally, the angel bent over and ran her fingers across the cheek of the peace officer. "There's a leak." She pronounced. "I told you that you are trying to put to much in this model."
"That's not a leak," said the Lord, "it's a tear."
"What's the tear for?" asked the angel.
"It's for bottled-up emotions; for fallen comrades; for commitment to that funny piece of metal called his badge; for justice."
"You're a genius." said the angel.
The Lord looked somber. "I didn't put it there." he said.

After jokes and smiles I said goodbye, never thinking that you'd be gone…
We frequently say goodbye to our loved ones when we set off to work, at the completion of our shift, or merely as we go about our day. It seems we always have the expectation of being reunited by kind words, a simple touch, or just the smile upon their face. Now without apparent reason and with no warning you are gone. Call it God’s will, simply fate, call it what you like, it is a hard reality to accept. Now that you are gone we still feel regret for the thoughts we felt and wished to be said, sadness for the good officer that was lost and a growing void with the absence of your friendship to all of us.
Tearful expressions of sympathy and remorse abound by those that knew you but are still not enough. Take comfort in knowing that your bonds of friendship have been forged in all of our hearts. That friendship is carried with each one of us beyond your passing. You will be deeply missed Dave, not just as a friend but as family.
From God's hand you were given, and by God's hand you were taken......Rest in Peace.

I knew Dave personally through his girls (daycare and cheerleading) and professionally when I was in a car accident. Dave was a wonderful police officer and an even more wonderful and loving father and husband. May the memories we have of Dave comfort us all through this difficult time.
