I've been trying for days to leave a reflection here but I keep finding myself at a loss for words.
I'm not sure where to begin......
To the Upper Saucon Township Police Department ~ My most heartfelt condolences go out to each and every one of you. Your department is small and I imagine you all must be very close; I am sure the loss of Dave is simply immeasurable. My heart aches for each one of you, especially the officer who responded that morning to Dave's call for assistance. I come to the ODMP every day to check my husband's site, as well as the sites of other officers whose widows I have become close to, and I am always so saddened to read another name added to the list of officers here. I always hoped and prayed there would never be another one from Northampton County. You are all in my thoughts and prayers.
To Jessica ~ I watched the news in disbelief last week. Disbelief and shock and utter despair. I know there isn't anything anyone can say right now to make you feel better, but I will offer you this - you are not alone, Jessica. You are not alone. I know you have a wonderful family and good friends who all love and support you and I am so glad for that. But there are many other police widows who are also here to support you, when you are ready.
Please know that I understand where you are at and what you are going through - I was there a mere 19 months ago, yet it seems like just yesterday. There were days right after Jesse died where I was absolutely sure my heart was going to just stop beating from the pain, where I didn't think I could take another breath without him or tolerate another moment of this awful reality. I know inside you are just screaming for this to not be true, begging God to give Dave back at any cost, wondering how you are going to raise your precious children alone.......I know because I was in your shoes. I've traveled this journey for 19 months and I want you to know that you are going to be alright, you may not believe it today or tomorrow or 6 months from now but I promise you, you will be alright. We are the wives of police officers and we are strong.
I have so much more I want to say to you, but I will save it for another time.....
I know Scott Grim called you last week and gave you my message. Please know that it was heartfelt and sincere - I want to help you in any way that I can. Please feel free to call me, day or night.....the hardest times for me were always at night, after the kids went to bed and I was alone. I made plenty of 2:00am phone calls (and still do) so please don't hesitate to ever reach out to me. Anytime.
Please take care of yourself and know that I am thinking of you and your children every day.
Thank you, Investigator Petzold, for your service and ultimate sacrifice. May God bless you and may you rest in eternal peace, forever safe in the arms of the angels.
And if it isn't too much trouble, please give Jesse a hug for me and tell him that we love and miss him.
Warmly ~
Carin E. Sollman, surviving spouse
Easton Police Officer Jesse E. Sollman, EOW 3/25/05

To Officer Petzold's family,
Verily I say to you the day WILL come when God will wipe out every tear from your eyes, and death will be no more, neither will mourning nor outcry nor pain. (Revelation21:4)...The time will soon come when all those in their memorial tombs will hear his voice and come out(John5:28,29) Please know that God will soon set things straight. His original purpose was for all mankind to live peacefully in a paradise earth, and soon this will come to be, and all our loved ones who were lost will be reunited with us once again. David is not with us now, but only for a short while must we endure...of this God promises.

In the simple performance of duty,
he pinned on a badge,
checked his gear with a practiced eye,
and kissed his loved ones good-bye.
In the simple performance of duty,
he reported for work,
joked with his buddies at roll call,
and made his last trip down the squadroom hall.
In the simple performance of duty,
he answered the call
to help the helpless, to find the lost,
no matter the danger or how great the cost.
In the simple performance of duty,
he lay down his life,
for those in peril he tried to save,
our brave friend went to his grave.
In the simple performance of duty,
we honor his deed,
as we carry him to rest in a flag-draped casket,
long after the world has forgotten, we shall never forget.
Never judge or regret, what he did, In the simple performance of duty.
Rest in peace brother, you will always be remembered.
May God Bless you, your Family and the members of the Upper Saucon Twp PD.
