Reflections for Deputy Sheriff David Jerome Rancourt

David J,

I still can't believe you are gone, but the wonderful memories will get us through. I enjoyed working with you while I was at the SO, you were and still are the best, and yes you were my favorite. But we don't have to let the rest know that. Ken and I will always be there for Dawn, J-man, and the baby. I will think of you always and will miss you forever. Rest in peace my friend. Love Natalie and Ken.

A silver star upon his chest.

Anyone who's known a man that wears a star on his chest,
Understands that he's patrolling so all can rest.

Working during bad weather, holidays and weekends.
Riding throughout the county without commends.

Long hours, meager pay; he is a person just like you.
Except for the courageous job he's sworn to do.

The things he sees each day; he has a family of his own.
More than most, he's thankful to near home.

Each day he puts on his uniform, vest and gun,
All too aware this could be his last one.

It's anyone's guess, this may be his time to die.
All could happen in a blink of an eye.

For you, he would gladly be destined to eternal rest.
For you, he wears a Silver Star on his chest.

He took an oath to serve and protect.
What he deserves is the people's respect.

As all of the community and surronding areas come together to honor our fallen friend, I would like to leave this Poem that I found many years ago by an Unknown Arthur. I think that it represents us as law enforcment very well.
POLICEMANS'S PRAYER
The policeman stood and faced his GOD,
Which must always come to pass.
He hoped his shoes were shining,
Just as brightly as his brass.

"Step forward now, Policeman.
how should I deal with you?
Have you always turned the other cheek?
To my church have been true?"

The policeman squared his shoulders and siad,
"No, lord I guess I ain't,
Because those of us who carry a badge
Can't always be a Saint.

It is hard to start this reflection with the passing of a friend, a brother, a good heart man. I meet Dave and Dawn in 1996 at the pawn shop I called home when I moved here. They were nice people. In 1997 I was luck to have David as my FTO as I began to learn what it meant to be a police officer. David should me the values of a good police officer. Five years later David became a water buddy and weshared some of the same water and missions. The one thing you always exspected to see from Dave was the bigest and warmest heartfelt smile. It was always real and always brought you up when you wre down. David will be missed but will always be in my heart with his wife Dawn, his son Jeromey and future child. I am blessed to have known and being around Dave. He is the angel from Saint Michael....

Dave,
To a man I met about a year and a half ago. Since then i have not been been the same person, you touched my heart dave, you have shown me what it is like to be a truley great and kind person to others.Your self sacrifice and dedication to you family, both careers of service and to the dive team will never be forgotten. I will never forget the dives we went on, it was an honor to be a ground crew member for you. Since our meeting, you have taught me to be generous, kind and self sacrifcing, you also showed me that there truly are good people out there. Deputy Rancourt, everyone in law enforcement gives something of themselves, you gave all and not just as a Deputy, but as a soldier as well. I thank you and admire your courage and commitment. I can tell from the Reflections left by fellow members of the Androscoggin County Sheriff’s Office that you were a very special person. Though they will not see you, I know in my heart your family and those you worked with, will feel your presence as you watch over them.

God Bless and may you Rest in Peace, Brother.

Dave,

I quickly came to realize how much you impacted my life over the last year and a half. As a young 21 year old, I looked up to you for your life experience and wisdom to help guide me in the right direction. I feel extremely grateful to have had the constant support from you while I was in college and recently while starting the hiring process with area departments. It truly was a blessing to have your father-like guidance as I pursue a career as an officer. I am forever going to miss your constant support and eagerness to help me achieve my goals. It’s irreplaceable…

May you rest in peace knowing that your legacy will live on and continue to forever make an impact in my life as well as your friends, family and co-workers, especially the ones who looked up to you as a role model…

Thanks for being the great guy you were, I’ll miss it

May you rest in peace Deputy Rancourt. Though we never met,I feel a deep sense of loss for your family, your brothers and sisters in law enforcemnt and the military. You have made the Supreme sacrifice. The kinds words written by fellow officers, friends and soldiers attests to the hero that you truly are. I left the Lewiston Police Department in 1995 and had the pleasure of working with Dawn at LPD and some of your brethren of the ASO. I'm sure that their hearts are heavy at the moment but they will draw comfort from the many fond memories they have of you. To Dawn and your family, may God grant you the strength to carry on in the knowledge that David touched so many lives in positive ways.

Dave, you were taken from us and you family far to soon. You have set a standard of excellence for all of us to strive for, but I fear few of us will ever reach or excede it. You will be sorely missed. Rest in Peace.

Truly one of the good guys, a multiple Hero.
For us to go on with our lives and again risk caring about others, we need to let go of those we care about, who are no longer with us. Through this process of mourning, we will gradually accept the loss. At the end of mourning, there will always be sadness, but it is a wistful sadness that is tempered by the happy memories that we will always possess.
