Reflections for Deputy Sheriff David Leroy Briese, Jr.
Truly one of the best in the field. Deputy Briese, you are missed!
Billings/Yellowstone County 911 Center
November 28, 2006
It has taken me awhile to be able to write this reflection for you David but not a day has passed since I heard of your tragic accident that you have not been on my mind. I moved from Billings four days prior to your departure and never got to tell you how much you influenced me. I remember a breakfast at Stellas when you had just returned from FTO school where you shared your wisdom and guidance. Your laugh was contagious and you made every time I patrolled on your shift a real joy. Rest in peace my brother and I will see you in time! God bless and thank you for the honor to have served with you.

Deputy Briese,
7 years ago you donated your time and efforts to assist my department in starting our detention facility's Disturbance Response Team. While I was not part of the original team I have become very familiar with your role in the intesive training that the original DRT members went through. I remember well the admiration that the first DRT Commander and Team Leader had for you. There is a picture that hangs in our facility's armory that has you in it. As a new officer and DRT member I remember seeing that picture for the first time and thinking to myself there is someone that I would want to have as my back-up. I just wanted to say that you have been and always will be part of the DRT. Our prayers are with you and your family. Thank you for your service, honor and integrity.

You were laid to rest yesterday in a manner befitting the hero you were. I will not say good-bye because that means forever. I will see you again my brother when I report in for duty, as all Marines do, to take my post at Heavens Gate. You and I will see each other then. I will just say See You Later Brother. I will miss you but until the day we see each other again God's Speed and Rest in Peace Brother we at the SO have the watch now. We will not let you down.
Go to 4: Don't worry about your your family and your team they are in good hands and we will keep them safe. See you later.

To The Family of Sheriff Briese, My prayers and thoughts go out to your family, i once too, lost a person that was family to me (Officer Joshua Rutherford, Blaine County Sheriff May-2003) David is a hero in my eyes, and i thank him for keeping us safe. so, here is something:
"A Fallen Officer"
Dark glasses can't hide
the tear stained eyes
of the warriors,
these men and women who aren't supposed to cry.
The silver covered
by that thin black line
an all to familiar sight this day
along with the pain that no one can hide.
Taps sounds, the guns go off
it only serves as a reminder
of what we all have lost.
one more deputy gone
But the hurt felt will last so long
for no longer in the streets of hell
a final call is given in honor
to another one that fell.

To the family and friends of Deputy Sheriff David Briese. Me and my family have you in our prayers. We know exactly what you are going through, we have our grieving too. My husband, Senior Border Patrol Agent David Webb was also in a car accident the same day Deputy David Briese was, and passed away instantly. We, like Deputy David Briese, have two young sons. Deputy David, I know that you are now happy because you are with your family all the time. They don't have to waive you good bye, they don't have to wait for you to come home, they can see you in every corner of the house, in their dreams, in their memories.
To his wife: The service our husbands did to our nations will not be forgotten, it was no small thing, it made a difference in so many people's lives that we can't even count them. Because of them many people are well.
My condolences, my sympathy, my heartfelt prayers to you. I can't say enough because I know nothing is enough.
Just rest assured that God has a plan, even if we can't see it. And please know this: Those who live in the Lord, never see each other for the last time.
Celia Webb.
