Reflections for Master Police Officer David George Whitson
Slim, Rest in peace! You will be missed. Thanks for all the memories I have from our time together in Beat 10. I'll never forget them. May God be with Holly and the children as well as with all current and former BGPD officers who had the opportunity to know you and work with you. Your persistence is one reason I am where I am today. Love you brother. Thanks for all you did for Bowling Green! You will never be forgotten.

I left county employment only 3 years after David joined the BGPD, but in that time, he deeply impressed me and everyone that meet him. He carried the ideal of "being here to help people" to a higher standard. He truly cared for people, knowing the names of many, many citizens that he came into contact with. He was fearless, courteous, professional and dedicated. He will be missed by all that knew him.
Thank you David, for showing a crotchety old man that it's ok to have feelings. Rest in peace my friend.

May God be with you and your family in this most tragic time. My thoughts and prayers are with you while knowing that you are in a better place. I feel that I am a better person because I was blessed enough to get to work with you and be your friend. You always brought a smile to my face. You laid down the ultimate sacrifice, and everyone thanks you for that. May God Bless you.

While I didn't know David on a personal level I saw him on an almost daily basis at work. He was always professional, courteous and a pleasure to work with. I never heard him speak ill of anyone and vice versa. The thing that we will probably all remember most about David was the smile that was always on his face and how he was always willing to stop and help someone in need on or off duty. David, your family and fellow officers will be in our prayers during this difficult time. I cannot tell you how much your brothers and sisters miss you. Know that all of us at WCRJ are grieving as well. May you rest easy MPO Whitson. It was an honor and inspiration to know you.

I had the privilege of working with David for several years. He was an excellant officer, but an even greater husband and father. David, I will never forget all that you taught me. Please keep David, his family, and the other officers involved in the incident in your prayers. With our fellow brothers and sisters standing beside us I know we will get through this difficult time. Rest easy with God #179, we'll take the watch now.

David, it doesn't seem like that long ago we were young eager college students at WKU, looking for our place in the world. I recall sharing laughs at dumb jokes, mostly mine, and just passing the time in the classes we shared; until we could both land our "dream" jobs. You were always a class act, and I'm a better person for knowing you. We lost contact over the years, but your passing has been a shock to all of us. Goodbye my friend, see you on the other side.

Saint Michael, heaven's glorious commissioner of police,
who once so neatly and successfully cleared God's premises
of all its undesirables, look with kindly and professional
eyes on your earthly force.
Give us cool heads, stout hearts, and uncanny flair for
investigation and wise judgement.
Make us the terror of burglars, the friend of children and
law-abiding citizens, kind to strangers, polite to bores,
strict with law-breakers and impervious to temptations.
You know, Saint Michael, from your own experiences
with the devil that the police officer's lot on earth is not
always a happy one; but your sense of duty that so
pleased God, your hard knocks that so surprised the
devil, and your angelic self-control give us inspiration.
And when we lay down our night sticks, enroll us in your
heavenly force, where we will be as proud to guard the
throne of God as we have been to guard the city of all
the people. Amen.

"The true reflection of a mans character is his treatment of those whom have no power over him". With David, that was always a smile and a general concern for your well-being. That is the man he was and the man I will always remember. My heart aches for his children, his wife, his parents,my fellow officers involved in this terrible tragedy and all those whose lives he touched daily. We mourn your loss and I thank you for his service to our community. May God bless and keep you safe.
RIP David, we will take the watch from here.
