I left county employment only 3 years after David joined the BGPD, but in that time, he deeply impressed me and everyone that meet him. He carried the ideal of "being here to help people" to a higher standard. He truly cared for people, knowing the names of many, many citizens that he came into contact with. He was fearless, courteous, professional and dedicated. He will be missed by all that knew him.

Thank you David, for showing a crotchety old man that it's ok to have feelings. Rest in peace my friend.

While I didn't know David on a personal level I saw him on an almost daily basis at work. He was always professional, courteous and a pleasure to work with. I never heard him speak ill of anyone and vice versa. The thing that we will probably all remember most about David was the smile that was always on his face and how he was always willing to stop and help someone in need on or off duty. David, your family and fellow officers will be in our prayers during this difficult time. I cannot tell you how much your brothers and sisters miss you. Know that all of us at WCRJ are grieving as well. May you rest easy MPO Whitson. It was an honor and inspiration to know you.

David, it doesn't seem like that long ago we were young eager college students at WKU, looking for our place in the world. I recall sharing laughs at dumb jokes, mostly mine, and just passing the time in the classes we shared; until we could both land our "dream" jobs.
