Having worked for the Jail for over 5 years I have come to know many of the Officers from different agencies. MPO Whitson always had a command presence when he entered the room. As a supervisor, I admired this quality. My heart goes out to Davids family and all law enforcement that suffer these troubled times. You are in my prayers.

Our family is so saddened by the death of Officer Whitson. he helped us a few years ago when our van was broken into. He answered my call. He made my husaband and I both feel like he was concerned. We too have children the same age as him and his wife. He came into our home and chatted with us. We talked about our love for old country music and our children. We are also in our mid 30s. We never forgot Officer Whitson. Whenever we saw him around town we remembered what a caring, warm human being answered our call for help that day.
I was getting ready for work when my husband told me who tho Officer killed was. We had just seen David Monday at Barnes and Nobles (where I work). I have not been able to shake the saddness in my heart. I pray for his wife and two beautiful little children, who losthim. I especially send my sympathy to his wife. I can not imagine the deep pain she must be experiencing. God rest his blessed soul and bless his sweet family in their time of need.

No one said it better than the man that said "It is much easier to wear a badge than to love someone who does". I grieve for Officer Whitson's wife and children. At the same time, I feel guilty because I am so thankful that my husband is safe and with me yet another day.
We will continue to keep Holly, Jacob, & Hannah in our prayers as well as the other officers involved. They are both excellent officers and the tragedy that happened on Tuesday will never be easily understood.
We rest in the comfort that knowing that David is with his God looking over us. October 31, 2006 was not the end of his watch.

I didn't know MPO Whitson, but I do know the trauma that a beloved Officer being struck down so early in life can make the whole department feel. As we have just recently lost our beloved Sheriff Chris Daniels on 10/14/06. It just seems as if the old saying is true that the good die young. But I do know that as loved as our Sheriff was and as loved as I have read from others that MPO Whitson was, then they made their mark in this world. To be able to say that I was a part of their world makes me feel blessed. My prayers are with both of his families, his wife and kids and his LEO family. May God Bless you all.

I'm so very proud to be part of the Bowling Green Police Department family. This department has responded with dignity and honor.

I know where David is today and I'm grateful for that.

His wife and their children, the officers of the Bowling Green Police Department, everyone who wears a badge and a gun, and everyone who loves someone who wears a badge and a gun, will remain in my prayers for a long time.

Thank you to all who have left reflections on this page. I first met Dave in 1998 at the Department Of Criminal Justice Academy in Richmond, Kentucky. We spent 10 crazy weeks together along with the rest of our class stressing over things that really had no bearing on our career or ultimately our lives. I feel a great pain in my heart today and can only hope that the remaining Bowling Green officers from our class help his wife and child through this time. I will always miss you.

WORDS CANNOT EXPRESS HOW MUCH WE LOVED DAVID, AND TO READ THE REMARKS LEFT BY OTHERS THAT KNEW HIM LET'S US KNOW JUST HOW MUCH OTHERS DID AS WELL.
I BELIEVE THAT BRO. JACK RAY SAID IT BEST & COMPLETELY TODAY. DAVID LIVED HIS LIFE TO SERVE OTHERS. HE LOVED AND TRUSTED GOD AND WANTED HIS FAMILY TO COME TO KNOW HIM AS HE DID BECAUSE HE LOVED THEM SO VERY MUCH.
I FEEL SO HONORED TO BE ABLE TO SAY HE WAS PART OF MY FAMILY! I WILL CHERISH THE TIMES I SHARED WITH HIM FOREVER.

Two weeks ago while on a vacation to great-grandma's house, we stopped by the BGPD. We were asking the "experts" for the location of some good hometown restaurants. Although it was a cold and rainy day, we felt very warm and welcome. Our thoughts and prayers are with the families and staff; may you find comfort in knowing that people across America are praying for you.
