Reflections for Deputy Sheriff Jeffrey Vaughn Mitchell
“But people who do evil will always fear him…for the policeman is sent by God to help you.” Romans 13:3-4. Jeff, you are that officer who God sent to protect his children. For God saw that you were weak and exhausted from your work and has called you home to rest because your watch was over. The memories you left behind will always be cherished. Rest in peace my brother, for we shall meet again.

I didn't know you, but you were a police officer, which made you my brother in my book. You are a true heroe. My deepest sympathy goes out to your wife and child, along with the rest of your family and friends. And to your co-workers, hang in there! Pick up the flag and keep going.

My deepest thoughts and prayers are with Deputy Mitchell's wife, child, family, friends and co-workers. I was married to Alabama State Trooper Brian Nichols EOW 2/17/2002 and I am now married to Washington County Deputy Sheriff Aaron Carpenter. All of your COPS family is here for you and hurting for you. We all became a family when our loved ones became police officers and now we have even a stronger bond when one of our family members go down. We are here for you to help you along this journey you now have joined with us. God bless you all.

To the family, friends, and officers that knew Deputy Sheriff Mitchell, my thoughts and prayers are with you as you face the trying times ahead of you. Please know your not alone.
Here I am, lost in the light of the moon that comes through my window
Bathed in blue, the walls of my memory divide the thorns from the roses
It's you and the roses
Touch me and I will follow in your afterglow
Heal me from all this sorrow
As I let you go I will find my way when I see your eyes
Now I'm living in your afterglow
Here I am, lost in the ashes of time, but who wants tomorrow?
In between the longing to hold you again
I'm caught in your shadow, I'm losing control
My mind drifts away, we only have today
Touch me and I will follow in your afterglow
Heal me from all this sorrow
As I let you go I will find my way
I will sacrifice 'til the blinding day when I see your eyes
Now I'm living in your afterglow
When the veils are gone as I let you go, as I let you go
Touch me and I will follow in your afterglow
Heal me from all this sorrow
As I let you go I will find my way, I will sacrifice
Now I'm living in your afterglow
Bathed in blue, the walls of my memory divide the thorns from the roses
It's you who is closest

To Jeff's family and friends,
As a friend and classmate from elementary school through high school I remember Jeff's friendly smile and easy going attitude. As a family member of Law Enforcement/Public Safety - I know of the tragedy of losing an officer in the line of duty. It's the ultimate sacrafice that should never happen. My thoughts and prayers with are with ALL of you at this time. May God give you strength to carry this burden and heal your hearts. Know that Jeff left this earth and will forever remain a HERO!

My heartfelt sympathy goes out to the family and fellow officers of [Deputy Mitchell.
While no one who wears a badge wants to be put into such a situation, you put yourself into the line of fire to protect those whom you might not have even known despite the danger. While I did not have the privilege to have known him personally, I am certain that he has found a place in heaven.
Rest in peace my friend; those of us who remain will cover your post on the thin blue line.
