On behalf of the Aurora, Missouri Police Department, we just wanted the Wood family and the Maywood Police Department to know that our thoughts and prayers are with all of you. May GOD bless Officer Wood for the ultimate sacrifice he has made to keep the city streets of Maywood safe and crime free. Officer Wood is now patrolling the "streets" in heaven, with our Lord and Savior. Officer Wood is a true hero. He will be missed, but NEVER forgotten. I was born and raised in the suburbs of Chicago and worked for a suburban Law Enforcement Agency prior to moving to Missouri, so I know what the dangers of policing the Chicago suburbs can be like. I still have friends that continue to rid their communities of crime. Rest in peace Ofc. Wood, we will take it from here. Ofc. M. Cooper #816

Somebody killed a Policeman today,
and a part of America died.
A piece of our country he swore to protect,
will be buried with him at his side.

The suspect that shot him will stand up in court,
with counsel demanding his rights.
While a young widowed mother must work for her kids,
and spend many long, lonely nights.

The beat that he walked was a battle field too,
just as if he'd gone off to war.
Though the flag of our nation won't fly at half mast,
to his name they will add a gold star.

Yes, somebody killed a policeman today,
in your hometown or in mine.
While we slept in comfort behind our locked doors,
a cop put his life on the line.

Now his ghost walks a beat on a dark city street,
and he stands at each rookies side.
He answered the call, of himself gave his all,

And A Part Of America Died.

Ofc Wood rest in peace, we'll take the watch from here.

We have lost another brother today, even though I never had the honor to know him in life, I still call him brother. Officer Wood, thank you for your service. I will have you and your family in my thoughts and prayers. God holds a special place in heaven for the men and women that place themselves between the good and evil in this world, and he watches over the ones that we leave behind.
To the family and friends of Officer Wood, I pray that God holds you dear to his heart and helps you through this dark time.
"Blessed be the peacekeepers for they are the true Hero's among us"

+ Rest now brother for your watch has ended +

I never dreamed it would be me
My name for all eternity
Recorded here at this hallowed place
Alas, my name, no more my face

"In the line of duty" I hear them say
My family now the price will pay
My folded flag stained with their tears
We only had those few short years

The badge no longer on my chest
I sleep now in eternal rest
My sword I pass to those behind
And pray they keep this thought in mind

I never dreamed it would be me
And with heavy heart and bended knee
I ask for all here from the past
Dear God, let my name be the last
(Author unknown)

+God bless all the men and women in blue.+

My deepest sympathy to the Wood family for their loss. I hope that the investigative effort that is now being conducted brings the individual(s) responsible for this heinous crime to justice. I also hope that his department and brothers and sisters in blue stay at the side of his loved ones and help them through their greiving process. You are a true hero Officer Wood and heroes never die. You will never be forgotten. Wrap your wings around your loved ones and help them with their grief. Keep watch over them and those still out on patrol guarding the Thin Blue Line.

FINAL CALL

An angel in the sky must leave his place of rest,
Gently tucking his wings beneath his armored vest.
For duty has called, there is much work to do,
Little did He know, this one’s dressed in blue.
Arriving on the scene, He knows just what to say,
"Follow me my fallen Brother, I’ll show you the way".
"Your duty here has ended, now Your work is through".
"Come rest your hat beside mine...for I’m a cop too".
