Leave a Reflection

Reflections for Police Officer Patrick Roy Kramer

Though I never knew him, he was part of my Law Enforcement family and I will mourn this deep loss the rest of my life. My heart aches with all the losses we suffered, and continue to suffer, through the years.

While it is no consolation for your loss, my heartfelt sympathy goes out to the family and fellow officers of Officer Kramer.

While I did not have the privilege to have known him personally, I am certain that he has found a place in heaven through his selfless service to those he swore to protect.

Rest in peace my friend; those of us who remain will cover your post on the thin blue line.

"Do not stand at my grave and weep,
I am not there, I do not sleep.
I am a thousand winds that blow;I am the diamond glints on the snow.
I am the sunlight that ripened grain;I am the gentle autumns’s rain.
When you awaken in the morning’s hush,I am the swift uplifting rush of quiet birds in circled flight.
I am the soft star that shines at night.
Do not stand at my grave and cry.
I am not there; I did not die."

-An Irish prayer

To the family and friends of Officer Patrick Kramer and to his fellow officers of the West Yellowstone Police Department:

I was so saddened to learn of the tragic death of this young dedicated officer. On behalf of our entire family, I extend our sincerest condolences on the grievous loss you sustained when Officer Kramer was tragically killed in the line of duty.

May you be comforted and supported by the warm embrace of your law enforcement family, and by other police survivors who share your painful journey.

My heart goes out to his young family. I know that Patrick profoundly touched the lives of many people and that he was an amazing father, family member, friend and officer. That is a wonderful legacy to leave to all those who cared for him.

This reflection is sent with the utmost respect for the service Officer Kramer gave to his community and the citizens of Montana, and for the supreme sacrifice he and his family made on October 22, 2006.

Officer Kramer, it’s often ironic how a cop dies. To die in a traffic accident while responding to a traffic accident is one of those tragic ironies we all know can happen, and yet, it never stops us from doing what needs to be done. You did what needed to be done and for that you have earned the respect of all of us. God will watch over your little daughter and I know you will always be at her side, giving her guidance and helping her in all the tough situations kids get into. She will only know your face from pictures and will only know what kind of man you were from the stories related by family, but she will never have doubt as to what kind of father you are, not were, are, for she will always know you are there with her.

God Bless and may you Rest in Peace, Brother.
