Our hearts are greatly saddened by the loss of such a sweet soul. Her time on this earth was spent doing the work of the Lord; giving of herslf to others, raising a fine daughter, living in love for all. The Lord needed his sweet angel home. We should celebrate the glory of her life and pray for peace, and be blessed to have had Mary Smith touch our lives. Ron&Alyne Ekberg

My heart and prayers go out to family of officer Smith and all the police officers, deputies, and state police.
To lose an individual who devotes her life to protect and secure our SAFE way of life is truly a loss the should touch each and individual person in the state of Alabama.
May God bless the Smith family, all the people whose life officer Smith touched and for the soul of the disgusting individual who took away Mary Smith.
Sincerely,
Kevin Gast

I never knew Mary, but I have ties to West End. I know the chaplain for Birmingham Police (former patrol officer) and I was real good friends with one of the three officers killed in 2004. I have a heart for the officers that serve me on a daily basis. Even though I live in Pinson and work in Birmingham, Mary worked to make sure the streets of Fairfield were safe for me and my family when ever we would come through. Mary-thank you for what you did!

On Monday, October 23, 2006 I turned on the TV and I had a sick feeling in my stomach. Yet, another Police Officer down. It brought back so many memories. I lost my dad on June 17, 2004. Who also was a Police Officer, Officer Carlos W. Owen. I remember your mother she was at my dad's funeral. Officer Mary Smith talked to me for a long time about my dad. Officer Smith was a very caring, loving person.
I know your journey through life without your Mother is going to very diffcult now, but hold her memories close to your heart and she will always be with you. I received a angel in the mail after my dad died with a card attached to it. The card said: Look to your memories for comfort..... To your friends for help and understanding.......To your Faith for hope and peace.
Keep these words and your mother close to your heart and I will pray for you everyday that you may find something to ease the pain. I am very sorry that you have to go through this.
My thoughts and prayers are with you.

Mary,
You were always a pure joy to work with. You kept me laughing until I was in tears. I am in tears now, because you were taken so violently. It is so selfish to wish you were still with us,we do. But you are resting in God's arms, and given the choice,I'm sure you would not want to come back. You are a REAL angel now. We will and do miss you. Enjoy your wings,Mary.
