Every now and then in life you meet a special person that leaves a lasting impression on your life. Though the meeting may be chance or routine, the impression is forever. Mary was that kind of person. She first showed me warmth when I was a young Prosecutor in Birmingham City Court still finding my way, then reconnecting in Fairfield. I remember the comfort I had knowing that Mary was now going to extend her magical way in Fairfield. Even though the time was brief, the Citizens of Fairfield still got to experience Mary's magic. We may have loved her but God loves her best. It was my priviledge to work with her both as a lawyer and as a fellow officer.

To the Smith family,
I was in town on business when the death of Officer Smith was broadcasted.I want say i know the pain you are going through because just last month i lost my nephew(Officer Rodney Johnson Houston,Texas)in the line of duty. From what i have heard of Mary in the news I have come to the conclusion she was a caring person with a beautiful spirit who loved her job, having retired and come back.Although she is gone, she will never be forgotten, that beautiful spirit of hers will always be with you and keep in mind what the Chief of Police Birmingham said in that you have a bigger family now.Rest in Peace Officer Smith, you are in my prayers,Job Well Done.

Although I didn't know Officer Mary Smith personally, this has really been a tough week for me. I watched the funeral on Fox 6 and I can tell Officer Smith touched a lot of lives. I just want her family to know that she was loved by everyone. Even those that didn't know her was affected by this tragedy. My prayers are with her daughter, loved ones, friends, and fellow officers. Stay strong and know that Birmingham loves you and we're here for you. We love you Officer Mary Smith and you will never be forgotten.

Well I'm really going to miss her. This has taken a major affect on my life see someone that's making a better place for me to be in my life gone. People don't know how I feel about losing Mrs.Smith. She's one of the officers that I knew I could go to and talk for a positive outlook on life when I felt like didn't anybody care about me. I'm saying I truly miss her very much.I'm going to try my best to make a positive thing out of this.

I will never really know how you must feel since I have no family members that are officers but i do know the effects that it can have on frinds and the community. Being part of the memorial committee for the 3 fallen officers in Fayette, Alabama that were killed not long ago. I designed a special lapel pin in memory of them. Although I cant do the same here i will say a special prayer for the family, all the friends, and the community in which she touched. God Bless all of you from Fayette.

Ms. Mary you will be really missed in the West End Community and in my family. I had a child at Lee Elem. School and she was in the Beta Club, and Ms. Mary would always support them and she would spend time with the kids. She use to park at the store down from the school so she could watch and the kids equally and she did her job. I will always miss Oficer Mary Smith. Rest In Peace For Ever More. Love The Reynolds Family. 2006

I WOULD LIKE TO SAY TO THE FAMILY OF OFFICE MARY SMITH, GOD IS THE ONLY ONE WHO CAN SEE YOU THROUGH THIS TIME OF SORROW AND GREAT LOSS. I WILL LIFT YOU ALL UP BEFORE THE LORD IN PRAYER. I PRAY THAT THE LORD WILL BLESS AND KEEP YOU ALL IN THIS HOUR OF BEREAVEMENT. I DIDN'T KNOW OFFICER SMITH PERSONALLY, BUT SHE MUST HAVE HAD A BEAUTIFUL SPIRIT BECAUSE SHE HAS TOUCHED SO MANY LIVES. I WATCHED THE FUNERAL ON FOX 6 AND I WAS BROUGHT TO TEARS MYSELF SEEING THE MANY LIVES THAT OFFICER SMITH HAS TOUCHED. SHE WAS A VERY SPECIAL WOMAN. I AM PROUD TO HAVE HAD A WOMAN SUCH AS HERSELF TO HAVE SERVED IN THE LINE OF DUTY ON THE STREETS OF B'HAM. I WANT TO LEAVE THE FAMILY OF OFFICER SMITH WITH THESE ENCOURAGING WORDS: " BE ENCOURAGED BECAUSE OFFICER MARY SMITH HAS INDEED FOUGHT THE GOOD FIGHT OF FAITH." SHE HAS RAN HER COURSE, SO SHE IS NOW COLLECTING HER PRIZE OF ETERNAL LIFE IN CHRIST JESUS. MAY GOD'S BLESSINGS CONTINUE TO BE WITH THE FRIENDS AND LOVED ONES OF OFFICER MARY SMITH.
