Reflections for Police Officer II Landon Michael Dorris

Oh Honey, there is so much I want to say but I don't know where to start. I dreamed about you last night. I've had that same dream twice. What are you trying to tell me? I should be happy that I get to see you and hear your voice once again but it is not the same. You look so handsome like always. Your son Landon claims that he has 9 girlfriends, Brendan is the total opposite; he said that he can only have one at a time. That my son!

Thank you Honey for my little present. It meant a lot for me and my boys. This coming year, our boys will start playing sports. Landon Jr wants to play ice hockey, football, baseball, and basketball. Brendan wants to play football, soccer, baseball, and ice hockey too. Every weekend its like you are here with us. Landon and Brendan love to sit and watch football. Just like you use to. It amazes me that they know every team. I am not kidding! They can name all the teams and not miss one.

Merry Christmas my dear Love. We love you and miss you.

Love,

May God continue to bless your family with strength to make it through each day without you. Four years have gone by but you have not been forgotten.

Dear Love,

I am here writing this letter to you and with me are Landon and Brendan. Today marks 4 years of you being gone. It's so sad that you are not here with us. I know your spirit is.

Landon Jr wants me to write this to you, "I miss playing sports with you and I miss you so much". Brendan wants me to tell you, "I miss you and I wish I could hug you". They are making sad faces. We really do miss you honey.

They are like my body guards. They are so cute.

I have received a lot of support from friends and family today. You have no idea how much that means to me and my boys.

Thank you for everything you have done. Although your time was short here in this earth, you really impacted a lot of people and changed a lot of lives, espeacially mine. God really heard your prayers Honey and also granted them. One of them was your two boys.

Please take care of us espeacially your sister Amy. I know you know what I mean.

Rest in peace Honey and we will see you soon.

Love you and miss you very much.

We never met Landon, but I’ve come to know and admire you. In 2007, I rode in your honor in the Police Unity Tour. That was the first year I rode and a friend selected your name as “my Officer” because I had been seriously injured under circumstances similar to those that took your life. Today, October 22, 2010, is a sad anniversary. It marks the fourth year since we lost you. It’s hard on your friends and family. They think of you constantly. Your boys are your legacy, they are happy, healthy well-behaved, well- cared for and well-loved. Your wife keeps your memory alive in them. You must be so proud of them and of her. God bless you and your family and thank you for your service and sacrifice.

I am currently a recruit in the police academy. Having heard so much in class about so many fallen officers, may interest began to peak about what can I do to show my support for those that have made the ultimate sacrifice. Last year, a friend and fellow officer I know participated in the Unity Tour. As I was browsing the site I came upon this reflection page. At this point in time, I thought that the very least I could do is leave a message for the family of a fallen officer to let them know that their husband, father, son, uncle, brother, friend did not die in vain. I am sure that Officer Dorris' family, friends, and fellow officers can truly appreciate his dedication and loyalty to his profession. My hope is that his family, especially his wife and children, know that I will carry his story with me, use it as a learning tool, and keep his memory alive through my service and work ethic, as I am sure many will in the years to come.

I worked many years in Los Angeles with the CHP and had many LAPD friends...I have the greatest respect for your department and your service both the CHP and LAPD. My son just got out of the USMC today after 9 years and 4 tours of duty in Iraq. He starts the LAPD academy on Monday August 16, 2010. Of course I wanted him to be a CHPY but you know sons, they have a mind of their own. If he could not be a CHPY I am proud to have him on the Greatest Police Department in the world. Semper Fi to you and after reading your wifes entries I really feel sadder.I am proud to have you guarding the heavens until we all meet again....Thank you very much for your service and I will ask my son to say a prayer for you and your family as I will....God Bless you....

Dear Honey,

I've been thinking of you a lot more. I miss you so much. Soon we will meet and we will be together for eternity.

Please watch over our boys. They are growing up so fast that they are becoming to be little dare devil's. They are totally you. Landon's been bugging me about football. I am to afraid. I don't want any of his little bones to break. Please guide me Honey.

Love you!

Landon!
When I was your sergeant at CHP, you would always meet with me and kindly ask for my advice. I encouraged your decision to join LAPD. Just wanted to let you know I miss you and miss our good conversations.

Just a civilian who wants you to know that I appreciate the service you gave to us. We would be lost without brave men like yourself. Continue to watch over us with your prayers in heaven. May God bless you and your family.

Hello big brother,

As you know, it was my birthday only 5 days ago im 34 now and so i guess that makes me 3 years older than you now. That just feels wrong in so many ways. I love you very much as you know. And I still think about you daily. Somedays every hour. Well lets just be honest,You are never more than a couple minutes away from my next thought. I guess it will be that way till i see you again. There are so many things that happen in my life were im glad your watching out for me and my kids. You always were on my side. I guess thats what big brothers do best. Yesterday when lexi was hanging off that cliff I know it had to be you or dad or both that made her foot get caught in between that branch and rock. when I saw her hanging upside down in that revine i knew she had a gaurdian. Thank you for helping us find our way out once again. I love you, and i guess ill talk to you again.

love always Amy

Dear Landon,

Summer is here! Your favorite season of the year. Sunny and HOT.

I took our boys to the beach on your birthday. We called it "Daddy's Day". We did all the favorite things you liked to do. They had so much fun. They said that you were so much fun. It was really nice. Oh Honey, we all miss you.

Brendan doesn't remember you. It really makes him sad. Landon remembers you well and that bothers Brendan. I have to explain to him that he was only 1 (just a baby). But Landon does a very good job and tells him stories about you and him. He is a very nice big brother and son. Brendan once said "When is Daddy coming home, I really want to see him, I don't even know him". It's very difficult to explain to him that you can't come back. Although we wish you can. Bottom line is that we miss you so much.

Missing you more and more everyday.

Love you always,

Your Family

Hi Honey! How are you doing? I don't know were to start. I have so much to say. First thing, I miss you so much. Our boys and I wish you were here with us. You were so much fun to be with. Now it seems like we don't do anything. Life will never be the same without you.

There is not a day that we don't talk about you. The best part was when we just drove with no destination and we talked and talked and talked. I took our boys on that same route you use to take us and they loved it! We talked about you all that time. It was a perfect moment.
I Love you so much.

Miss you.

Hi Honey!

I know it's been a long time. I have been very busy with every thing, boys going to school, me working and just every thing. It's very hard. I just don't have time. I'm so sorry Honey.
Boys and I are going to visit your Mom this week. We are very excited! Your Mom is making all this planning for us when we get there. She is so cute! I love her. Boys are very excited to see Gramie. We went couple of months ago and we all had a blast.
I know you will take care of us from Heaven.
I will always love you.

Love always,
Landon Jr., Brendan and Marisabel
