A Hero Is...
One who never hesitates to tackle the most difficult problems.
One who is always by your side.
One who knows right from wrong.
One who acts with pride.
A HERO touches every one of us,
whether it be word or deed...
Always tending to those who find themselves in need.
When a HERO leaves this earth, yes, it sad but true,
All too many times, the HERO is dressed in blue.
To the family of Officer Dorris,
We know the terrible pain you are going through, but know this, you are not alone we all share the same pain. He will never be forgotten because a hero lives forever.
Officer Dorris, watch over them they need you more then ever, you are an angel in blue. You will be missed greatly.
Rest now HERO your job here is done.
sister of a fallen officer.

To the family and fellow Police Officers of Northeast Area. It has truly been a long and difficult week preparing for Landon's funeral.
Simply said, I am proud to be a fellow police officer and to have been able to serve you by assisting with the funeral service. Each and everyone of you can be proud of yourselves by showing this family and our community how we care for each other.
I can say that I serve alongside the finest police officers. Thank you for that opportunity.

To the Dorris Family - I am truly sorry for your loss. As I watched you all cry today, I couldn't help but cry with you. I never had the pleasure of knowing him, but to see how his life impacted those around him, makes it evident that he was an amazing person with an incredibly warm heart. It also shows how special you all are. It takes strong women (spouses, mothers and sisters) to support this job. Everytime I hear about an incident I want to tell him to quit but I know that he would be miserable because he lives for this job...just like Landon... You four are incredibly strong for supporting him through his entire law enforcement career. He was obviously a great cop and his memory will live on through all of you and through all of us too. We will not forget that he served his community for almost a decade and that he lost his life doing it. We will not forget that he patiently helped people that didn't want or deserve his help. We will not forget that he protected people that in many people's eyes aren't worth protecting. We will not forget that he put up with 9 years worth of persectution from haters and still put on that uniform day after day. It takes a very strong person to do that and he was obviously qualified for that role. I will not forget all that he has done. Thank you for creating such a great man. Thank you for raising such a great man. Thank you for supporting such a great man.
You all are awesome and I feel so proud and comforted that you all are apart of the LAPD family. I know that NorthEast will be watching over you, the boys, the sisters and mom. I look forward to assisting in anyway I can. You are in my thoughts. My God bless you all during this trying time.

To the family and friends of Officer Landon Dorris and to his fellow officers of the Los Angeles Police Department and CHP:
I was so saddened to learn of the tragic death of this young dedicated officer. On behalf of our entire family, I extend our sincerest condolences on the grievous loss you sustained when Officer Dorris was tragically killed in the line of duty.
May you be comforted and supported by the warm embrace of your law enforcement family, and by other police survivors who share your painful journey.
My heart goes out to his young family. In reading the reflections abouth Landon, it is obvious that he profoundly touched the lives of many people and that he was an amazing father, son, brother, family member and loved one, friend and peer. That is a wonderful legacy to leave to all those who cared for him.
This reflection is sent with the utmost respect for the service Officer Dorris gave to his community and the citizens of California, and for the supreme sacrifice he and his family made on October 22, 2006.
