Reflections for Police Officer Daniel Patrick Picagli
Danny
I know God has a great person in heaven, cause he took you from us. I will never understand why, we miss you so much. The hockey games in front just aren't the same without you, not to mention the Margharita's on the deck.I promise you I will forever help my best friend, and the kids...you need not worry. Until we meet again, take care of yourself, we miss you deeply.
Love ya,
Kim

Danny,
You were a great cop who will never be forgotten in New Haven. You helped all who you possibly could and you were respected and loved by everyone you ever met. You will be missed all the time by many. May your rest in peace and eternal light be granted upon thee.

Danny, There is not a day that my heart does not hurt nor a day that goes by that I do not shed a tear not just for me, but for your wife Dee, D.J.& Matthew and all of your family.I've known you since the childhood days of Fair Haven and I just want to say thank you for letting me be a part of your life and in all the great memories that we shared in from playing hockey to both of our weddings. But most all, I thank you for being you. Ready or not, someday it will all come to an end.
There will be no more sunrises, no minutes, no days.
All the things you collected, whether treasures or forgotten, will pass to someone else.
Your wealth, fame and temporal power will shrivel to irrelevance.
It will not matter what you owned or what you were owed.
Your grudges, resentments, frustrations, and jealousies will disappear.
So, too, your hopes, ambitions, plans, and to-do lists will expire.
The wins and losses that once seemed so important will fade away.
It won't matter where you came from, or on what side of the tracks you lived, at the end.
It won't matter whether you were handsome or brilliant.
Even your gender and skin color will be irrelevant.
So what will matter? How will the value of your days be measured?
What will matter is not what you bought, but what you built; not what you got, but what you gave?
What will matter is not your success, but your significance.
What will matter is not what you learned, but what you taught.
What will matter is every act of integrity, compassion, courage or sacrifice that enriched, empowered or encouraged others to emulate your example.
What will matter is not your competence, but your character.
What will matter is not how many people knew you, but how many will feel a lasting loss not that when you're gone.
What will matter is not your memories, but the memories that live in those who loved you.
What will matter is how long you will be remembered, by whom and for what.
Living a life that matters doesn't happen by accident. It's not a matter of circumstance but of choice.
You chose to live a life that matters.
Your Sister-in-law, Tina

D-Pags,
I couldn't believe it when I heard what happened to you, it always seems the good ones leave us way to soon. The media depicts many people in a bright light when they pass away, but we all know that may not be the case. But Pags the depiction of you was so true and maybe someday I can touch as many people as you have. Rest well, you've earned it.

My Dearest Husband,
The days and nights spent away from you, have broken my heart literally in two. Although I have many reasons to cry, I wipe my tears, yet they wont dry. When I try to sleep at night,it's you I want, I know I'm right. In the morning when I awake, it's you I'm reaching for, it's no mistake. When I find you not at my side, this sense of pain grows deep inside. For this is a bad dream that has come true. Babe I am really missing you.
Thankyou for your unconditional love. You are my bestfriend and soulmate. The time we were given was way to short. Please continue to watch over us and guide us.
You will forever remain in my heart. I LOVE YOU !!!
Love Always, Your Other Half

Dan worked with us each year on our YDTRC Annual Youth Forum, where youth and adults partnered to provide workshops for middle and high school youth from New Haven and surrounding communities. Dan co-led one workshop that thankfully, YDTRC has on tape.
Dan was an inspiration to everyone he met and worked with, so he will be greatly missed.
He exemplified a caring and competent adult who saw potential in every young person. He truly cared for youth and reached out to young people from every race, creed, ethnicity, or background.
I admired Dan for his passion, his integrity, and his energy. I will miss him in April at the 2007 youth forum. God Bless Dan and his entire family. We all grieve with this family that has suffered such a sudden and tragic loss of a wonderful man. Take Care dear ones.

Danny,
My friend 'Pags', I just wanted to say thanks for all you've done, your a true warrior and hero and may God always be with and bless you.
I've always said that if I touched one persons life in my career then i've done my job -- but, my friend apparently I have so much work to do. You touched thousands of lives both in children and adults, for that I commend you. Any rookie out of the Academy, should want to follow in your footsteps and try being the person, friend, parent and Police officer that you were. No one can ever be like you (the kind of person you were) because they threw the mold away when you were created.
I just wanted to say I'm honored to have known you. I miss playing deck hockey with and against you - you were an amazing hockey player. Even though we weren't really close because of our busy life styles, family and work schedules -- to me you were and always will be a my friend. I miss your friendship and I'll never forget your smile, I don't ever think there was a time that you didn't smile. Dan, I wish I can turn the clock back to when we played hockey together, or visiting you, Deanna and your family. I've known you and your family for about 15 yrs. and I couldn't have come across nicer people if I tried.
Danny, my brother, i'm just glad I was able to visit with you at the hospital for a few moments on Saturday, 10/21/06. I'm sure you heard me cry, but that goes to show you how much respect I have for you and that I truly care about you and your family. Deanna is such a wonderful person and she's very strong. DJ grew up to be just as respectful as you --- and you should be very, very proud of him and your family. I'll do all I can for them if they need anything.
I'll miss you, but now you and my brother Andrea are angels in the sky, please take care of him -- as I know he will welcome you in heaven and take care of you. Your both are Yankee fans so I know you'll get along great. I hope you have eternal peace, and please watch over your brothers and sisters in blue. My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family. You will be truly missed, I know I miss you,
Your friend,
