Every time I take a road trip I keep a list of the memorial markers I see along the highway so I can look up the stories of the man or woman when I get home and learn a little bit more about how they came to their end of tour. On my journey from Georgia to Massachusetts, just a week before the horrific bombings at the Boston Marathon, I came across the marker for Officer Picagli.

Thank you for sharing his story with me. I hope that his wife and kids will see this and smile knowing that somewhere in the world a perfect stranger has read the story of their husband and father and walked away with at least a small bit of knowledge about the great things he did during his lifetime.

Till this day it makes me sad to remember that I last saw you the night before you got hit. I never got a chance to tell you what a wonderful person you were.

Remembering you today, on the 5th anniversary of your passing. We think of you often, holding those memories dear. We hope you see the waves & kisses blown each time we (family & friends) pass the highway sign that was erected in your honor......a tribute that allows the memory of you to NEVER be FORGOTTEN.

Dad, we are approaching the 4 year anniversary of your passing on the 21st, time just flys by! We still think of you daily, that will never change. All of your friends and family miss you so much ! We said you will NEVER be forotten and that holds true because on Thursday 10/21 a sign will be put up on I-91 between exits 7 & 8 displaying "Officer Daniel P. Picagli Memorial Bridge" It will be there forever as an honor to a great man ! There are so many things to honor you, my LODD lisence plate, my decal on my rear window, i have your prayer card and memorial pins in my car as well. Your picture is in my room and in many neighbors and relatives houses. I think about you and the great memories we shared together all the time. I still have an ultimate goal of being following in your footsteps and being a cop just like you. Its sad to see how many "brothers and sisters" have made the ultimate sacrifice before and after you, this total is much to high. Continue to watch over our family and friends as well as other officers. I LOVE AND MISS YOU SO MUCH R.I.P DAD <33

As Eli Whitney's 25th High School reunion is being planned I turned to my yearbook to recall a face for those I may have forgotten over time. When I open it, out spills the articles I saved surrounding your accident and death and I cry. Flat out break down and cry. Your prayer card is stuck between the pages where your high school photos is. Who knew Dan that I would miss someone so much, someone I only knew for a short time. You had a positive impact in my troubled teen life. You certainly weren't like the other "boys". You were sensitive and just down right decent. You married a childhood friend of mine and had beautiful children together. How I wish we stayed close. I really could have used friends like you and Dee but at the time I was caught up in my own life. Had I only reached out...I know you would have been there. The day you passed is the day this world lost a truly good person. You did so much; every one loved and admired you. I can only aspire to be more like you Dan. God rest your soul. And God bless your family. I will always remember you.
