Reflections for Police Officer Robert Michael Langley
I pray to God that Robert lost his life defending that which is most precious to all in his community. God takes those and opens his arms with praise and life everlasting. A great officer has fallen, but into angels arms he falls.
God bless Roberts family and the most blessings a family could have, I know are coming their way!
My heart is sore but my sole and mind are so proud to send this to his family along with hoping that the family understands that Robert is one of those who has given his life for you in a profession he loved most.
God Bless

Robert,
I am at a great loss for words. You became my close friend really fast. You were at almost every stop or every call with me. I always new every situation would work out because I had someone there. Being a rookie, that was the best thing I could have had. I learned so much from you and there's no way to describe how much I learned from you and how much of an impact you had on me. You showed the greatest confidence in me. I'll miss you unbearably and the entire department, but especially "the night train" will never be the same. I love you greatly and I know that you will watch over in a very special way.

I was sure by now
That you would have reached down
And wiped our tears away
Stepped in and saved the day
But once again, I say "Amen", and it's still raining
As the thunder rolls
I barely hear Your whisper through the rain
"I'm with You"
And as your mercy falls
I raise my hands and praise the God who gives
And takes away
I'll praise You in this storm
An I will lift my hands
For you are who you are
No matter where Iam
Every tear I've cried
You hold in your hand
You never left my side
And though my heart is torn
I will praise You in this storm.
I remember when
I stumbled in the wind
You heard my cry
You raised me up again
My strength is almost gone
How can I carry on
If I can't find you?
As the thunder rolls
I barely hear Your whisper through the rain
"I'm with You"
And as your mercy falls
I raise my hands and praise the God who gives
and takes away
I lift my eyes unto the hills
Where does my help come from?
My help comes from the Lord
The Maker of Heaven and Earth.
Praise you in this storm

Officer Langley, though the loss of any Brother/Sister law enforcement officer is hard, when we in the academic community lose one of our own, it’s especially difficult. Over the years we’ve lost far too many college/university police and public safety officers but it seems in the past few years the rate of loss has increased. That is heart breaking yet a very somber wake up call to all those who say, “Well, you work at a college, you must not have much trouble there.” One can never be sure when trouble will come along, or where and your murder proves that sad, simple fact.
My heart goes out to your family at the University of Mississippi and especially to your family at home who will no longer have you around physically, yet I know you will never truly leave them and they will feel your presence always.
May justice be done concerning your killer and may he fully understand that he not only took your life, but ruined his own and damaged countless others with that stupid unnecessary act.
May God Bless you and may you rest comfortably in Heaven, Brother.
