Reflections for Police Officer Robert Michael Langley
To the Langley family -- You have our most sincere sympathy in the loss of your husband and father. I walked out of the house every morning for 34 years with the Georgia State Patrol and Georgia Bureau of Investigation not knowing if I would walk back in that evening. So many people asked me over the years....why would you choose that job. I had known since I was a youngster that being a police officer was all that I would ever want to be. I was fortunate enough to have survived encounters similar to the one that took Robert's life...it wasn't my time. My wife, my partner...she and I met while employed at the GBI and we have been together 31+ years now and are still raising teenage sons due to being too busy buying dope undercover to have children earlier in life. Somehow we made it trough, but we have freinds who did not. Again, we are so sorry for the loss of Robert. It sounds to us as if he was a great man who will be truly missed by his family and co-workers. God Bless all public safety personnel and God Bless our military men and women who have allowed us to live free and do the job that we in law enforcement were chosen for. All oour love, Walt & Len, Jimmy, Christopher, Patrick and Nicholas Brooks of Lawrenceville, Georgia

Robert Langley was an outstanding man. I met Officer Langley on the campus of the University of Mississippi. He was one of the kindest law enforcement officers I had ever met. I knew I was well protected as a student at the University with officers like Officer Langley watching over us. He was not only a law enforcement officer protecting the university and its students, but he was a friend to all of the students he came in contact with. He will not be soon forgotten, and his services will be cherished by many forever.

As I read the reflections of your life, Officer Langley, I am awed by the tremendous support and prayers from people that never knew you. As we live miles apart, I could possibly not have ever known about your heroism except that your brother talked with me in Tyler that solemn morning looking for directions. As I was told of this tragedy, my heart sank. I could see the heavy heart your brother was carrying.
We never met and probably never would have, but you were and are my brother. Your family is a part of my family. I wish to tell the family and especially your brother, good things can come from tragedy. I believe that it was by Divine appointment that your brother talked to me that morning. It has made an impact on my life and I will continue to pray for your family through their healing. I just wanted you to know that good has already begun to flow from what seemed as if nothing good could come.
May God comfort you within his Almighty arms. May all those that reflect on your sacrifice reflect on their own life as I have and realize that now is the time to have our priorities straight.
Thank You.
