Reflections for Trooper Joshua Patrick Risner
Josh,
It is hard to believe that almost 2 years have went by since that day that you were called to heaven. So much has happened in our lives. Bet you cant believe how much the kids have grown. As you know Peyton has started football. He has your old number. He is so proud to wear it. He misses you so much. He came home bummed out one night and wanted to quit because you were not here to coach. I offered to get out there and coach and he just laughed and decided that he would continue to play and he decided that I was best on the bleachers just watching. As you also know Paige hasnt changed her attitude a whole lot. She continues to push all my buttons and everyone elses for that matter just to see how far she can get. She misses you as well. She is always talking about the things she remembers about you. I continue to miss you each and every day. It seems my heart continues to ache just as much as it did on that very first day. I love you and miss you every day. I still expect you to walk through the door each morning. I hope you and Dale are having a great time in heaven. Please keep watching over us each day. I look forward to seeing you again some day. I miss you and I love you with my whole heart!
We love you!

Wow,almost two years. Also another birthday.I'm almost the same age as you.Not the way I planned things!I haven't left anything on here for awhile but you now as well as I do that I think about you all the time.Things around here could be better but they could also be worse.I want you to know that I miss you so much and the way things used to be even though it meant us bickering. They say you have to find your new normal but it's so hard to do when no one else wants to jump on board. There is alot else I'd like to say but I'm not one to air my dirty laundry.I've thought about starting a journal to you.I should do that.Continue to watch over us who need it and keep the rest in line.

"The Badge"
He starts his shift each day
To respond to calls unknown.
He drives a marked patrol car.
A police officer he is known.
He's paid by the citizens' taxes
To make it safe on the streets.
But he usually has a second job
'Cause a waitress has his salary beat.
Now he doesn't know a holiday
'Cause he works all year round.
And when Thanksgiving and Christmas finally arrive
At his home he cannot be found.
He's cursed and assaulted often,
The one whos blood runs blue.
He seldom ever gets a thanks,
To some he's just a fool.
His friends are always other cops
'Cause people just don't understand
That underneath his badge and gun,
He's just another man.
He knows there might not be a tomorrow
In this world of drugs and crime.
And he gets so mad at the court system
'Cause the crooks don't get any time.
And each day when he leaves for work,
He prays to God above.
Please bring me home after my shift
So I can see the ones I love.
But tonight he stops a speeding car,
He's alone down this ole' highway.
It's just a little traffic infraction.
He does it everyday.
Well, he walks up to the driver's window,
And his badge is shining bright.
He asked the guy for a driver's license,
When a shot rang through the night.
Yes, the bullet hit its mark,
Striking the officer in the chest.
But the Department's budget didn't buy
Each officer a bullet-proof vest.
So he lay on the ground bleeding.
His blood wasn't blue - His blood was red.
And briefly he thought of his loved ones
'Cause in a moment the officer was dead.
In the news they told the story
Of how this officer had died.
And some who listened cared less,
But those who loved him cried.
Well, they buried him in uniform
With his badge pinned on his chest.
He even had his revolver,
He died doing his best.

Been thinking of you a lot again, Josh. It still seems like a bad dream. I'm sure you'll be watching the Bucks tonight, as will all of us. Miss you and love you.

I've been thinking about you alot lately and really missing you. Will it always feel like this? I mean, twenty years down the road will it sometimes feel like you were just taken yesterday?Christmas was o.k. Alot better than last year.I took Peyton to pick out the ham because that was your job so now it should be his.He is such a good boy.Smart, sweet, polite, and has a really good head on his shoulders.I swear, he is you all over again, except for the sweet part because, let's be honest, you had your grouchy moments!I got that Stones CD for Xmas.I listen to it every day to and from work. That's pretty much all the alone time I have so I use it thinking about you and all the other things I have to ponder on.Moey was sent to you yesterday.I'm sure he is sitting at your feet now.Feed him well and scratch his back.Don't let anyone make fun of him,it's not his fault that he stinks and has dander. Please keep watch over us and protect Cory against the gang bangers.Lauren and I need him.I don't think I could handle this again.Peace out and GO BUCKS!!!!!!!!!!!
