Reflections for Reserve Deputy Lawrence M. Barnes, Sr.

My deepest thoughts and prayers are with Deputy Barnes' family, friends and co-workers. I was married to Alabama State Trooper Brian Nichols EOW 2/17/2002 and I am now married to Washington County Sheriff Deputy A.V. Carpenter. All of your COPS family is here for you and hurting for you. We all became a family when our loved ones became police officers and now we have even a stronger bond when one of our family members go down. We are here for you to help you along this journey you now have joined with us. God bless you all.

Vice President of Alabama COPS

R.I.P Deputy. Barnes

I approach the vehicle, as bluelights bounce around me,
It's not a matter of like and hate, it's the violation I saw.
As I get closer, the danger I do not see,
I'm thinking of enforcing the law.

I hear the shot, and feel the pain,
As I drop to the ground
The car speeds off driven by a man who has to be insane,
As I finally into my radio, mumble,"Officer Down!"

As I lay there, I thought of my wife,
I see the dreams we had made.
I ask the Lord to please spare my life,
Then I felt myself begin to fade.

I stopped him only for speeding,
Then I heard a sweet voice on my ear.
"Come with me son, to Heaven I am leading.
No more will you have to shed a tear."

I opened my eyes to see my Savior,
He said, "Follow me, my son.
He will pay for his behavior,
For you have performed a job well done!"

I'm so sorry to hear of your loss. After years of coming home safely after regular duty, it is sad and tragic to have it end in such an accident. My own father was a reserve deputy at the time of his death. LEO's don't get compensated near enough for the job they do, but to do the job as a volunteer speaks to the love of the profession. That leaves us to know that he died doing what he loved. God bless those Deputy Barnes left behind. Know that you are in our prayers. Thank you, Sir, for your service, devotion and sacrifice. God rest your soul.

"I asked myself why me god I am here to help people, I am a good guy, I face danger everyday to protect and serve, why wasn’t I protect by you god, I am leaving my friends, and family, and my loving partners. My partner called Officer Down Officer Down thousand then said I am enroute. While I was down, I was only thinking about my love ones.”

To the family of Deputy Barnes-
This dedicated man's lifetime of public service undoubtedly made your community a safer and better place. But such words can do so very little to take away the pain of such a tragic loss. Please know that you are not alone, that there are many of us in your extended "law enforcement family" who know and share your pain and who will never forget. God bless.

To the family, friends, and officers that knew Deputy Barnes, my thoughts and prayers are with you as you face the trying times ahead of you. Please know your not alone.

Here I am, lost in the light of the moon that comes through my window
Bathed in blue, the walls of my memory divide the thorns from the roses
It's you and the roses

Touch me and I will follow in your afterglow
Heal me from all this sorrow
As I let you go I will find my way when I see your eyes
Now I'm living in your afterglow

Here I am, lost in the ashes of time, but who wants tomorrow?
In between the longing to hold you again
I'm caught in your shadow, I'm losing control
My mind drifts away, we only have today

Touch me and I will follow in your afterglow
Heal me from all this sorrow
As I let you go I will find my way
I will sacrifice 'til the blinding day when I see your eyes
Now I'm living in your afterglow

When the veils are gone as I let you go, as I let you go

Touch me and I will follow in your afterglow
Heal me from all this sorrow
As I let you go I will find my way, I will sacrifice
Now I'm living in your afterglow

Bathed in blue, the walls of my memory divide the thorns from the roses
It's you who is closest
