Reflections for Trooper William Lloyd McClendon

What a special person you were to our family and how many lives you touched! Alot can be said for a man that has many friends. You were always there for Jacob and as our family grew, so did your concern for all of us. We will do the same for you and be here for Hope, Dakota, Maverick and Kendra should they ever need us.
Hope, Dakota, Maverick and Kendra-We miss you all very much and pray that God strengthens you with every passing day.

Trooper McClendon was an outstanding Trooper and friend. He was always someone who you could count on for help. He was both strong and kind and left his mark on those he came in contact with. He made an impact on my life as both a personal friend and colleage. I will always remember him and keep the friendship that we shared close to my heart. I know he is in a better place and my prayers are with those left behind.

To Trooper McClendon's daughter,

I'm sure your Dad cherished every moment of the ten plus years he had loving you and watching you grow. It sounds as if he did a great job. I'm sure he never had a dollar more well spent in his life than buying you roses. Happy birthday. Make him proud.

To my loving husband, I want to say thank you for giving me 14 wonderful years. You were such a hard worker and took such pride in everything you did. Thank you for giving me 2 wonderful children Maverick and Kendra, also for letting me be in Dakota's life as well. You have 3 of the best children in the world!! They love and miss you so much, as do I. Thank you so much for driving to Marietta 2 days before the accident just to give me my anniversary present. You were the most thoughtful man in the world! I know you are still watching over us and I know someday soon the kids and I will see you again, as Maverick says "in a way better place!". I love you so much, always have and always will!!

Aloha Trooper William L. McClendon,
Thank you for your service and dedication to your community and your country. You and all officers that continue to lay your lives on the line and pay the ultimate sacrifice to keep our communities and country safe, will NEVER be forgotten.

I personally pledge, (after one of Hawaii's own, Honolulu Police Officer Steve Favela, lost his life in the line of duty protecting our Commander in Chief, President George W. Bush), to become a continuum of the ODMP light. That light is in the form of an ODMP tribute. People from all walks of life, regardless of age, race, religion, profession, education, and geographical location can share here. That "LIGHT" comes from within the heart and soul of every person who cares to share a word or two on behalf of each and every fallen officer. Every fallen officer is an hero. The ODMP; Officer Down Memorial Page gives us a place to come together and share our feelings as one family. May we find comfort as we give comfort to the families who have lost a loved one.

As we say in Hawaii, “We are`Ohana.” We are family. God Bless this fallen hero. May we embrace him as one of our own family member; our `Ohana. No one will ever be able to replace you for you were unique and very special. No one; not in this lifetime. May God allow you to rest in His Divine peace.

Trooper William L. McClendon, I wish you, your loved ones, your fellow officers, and friends, peace and love beyond all understanding.

--- May this Hawaiian prayer give all those who read it comfort. ---

THE PEACE OF " I "
KA MALUHIA O KA "I"

Peace be with you, All My Peace,
O ka Maluhia no me oe, Ku'u Maluhia a pau loa,

The Peace that is " I ", the Peace that is "I am".
Ka Maluhia o ka "I", owau no ka Maluhia,

The Peace for always, now and forever and evermore.
Ka Maluhia no na wa a pau, no ke'ia wa a mau a mau loa aku.

My Peace " I " give to you, My Peace " I " leave with you,
Ha'awi aku wau I ku'u Maluhia ia oe, waiho aku wau I ku'u Maluhia me oe,

Not the world's Peace, but, only My Peace,
The Peace of " I ".

A'ole ka Maluhia o ke ao aka, ka'u Maluhia wale no,
Ka Maluhia o ka "I".

"When tomorrow starts without me,
And I'm not there to see,
If the sun should rise and find your eyes
all filled with tears for me;

I wish so much you wouldn't cry
the way you did today,
While thinking of the many things,
We didn't get to say.

I know how much you love me,
As much as I love you,
And each time that you think of me,
I know you'll miss me too;

But when tomorrow starts without me,
Please try to understand,
that an angel came and called my name,
And took me by the hand,

And said my place was ready,
In heaven far above,
And that I'd have to leave behind
all those I dearly love.

But as I turned to walk away,
A tear fell from my eye,
For all my life, I'd always thought,
I didn't want to die.

I had so much to live for,
So much left yet to do,
it seemed almost impossible,
that I was leaving you.

I thought of all the yesterdays,
The good ones and the bad,
I thought of all that we shared,And all the fun
we had.

If I could relive yesterday,
Just even for a while,
I'd say good-bye and kiss you
and maybe see you smile.

But then I fully realized,
That this could never be,
For emptiness and memories,
would take the place of me.

And when I thought of worldly things,
I might miss some tomorrow,
I thought of you, and when I did,
My heart was filled with sorrow.

But when I walked through heaven's gates,
I felt so much at home.
When God looked down and smiled at me,
From His great golden throne,

He said, "This is eternity,
And all I've promised you."
Today your life on earth is past,
but here life starts anew.

I promise no tomorrow,
But today will always last,
and since each day is the same way,
There's no longing for the past.

So when tomorrow starts without me,
don't think we're far apart,
For every time you think of me,
I'm right here, in your heart "

You could definately tell the kind of loving and caring person he was just by the way Hope talked about her husband and the way that Maverick and Kendra talked about their dad! Well what can I say, my dad was a loving father, and a loving husband. He was also one of the best OHP's that I knew. I will miss his loving smile and his awsome sense of humor. We did alot of things together, for example he taught me alot of things about football(He was the BIGGEST OU fan I ever knew). I am going to miss doing all those father son things that I loved so much. He always wanted his car spotless, and was always shining the brass on his uniform. I know he took great pride in being a Highway Patrol and would haved loved to see all the caring people paying their respects to him. I would majorly like to thank Brian Costanza, Lance Schroyer,Scott Lee, Mike Smith,Steve McCroskey, Mike Plunkett, and Marty Grisham for being there for us in many ways through this difficult time. I know they hate losing a fellow officer. I would like to tell my Uncle DJ, Aunt Courtney , and my cousins Kayla and Austin Keizor thank you for their love and support. There was never a minute when you guys weren't right there. I would also like to let my grandpa and grandma Don and Carol Keizor know how much I love them. THANK YOU, you guys mean the world to me. Mom, I love you so much. I will always be there, just remember that. Kendra and Dakota I love you both so much. We can get through this together. And to my dad(Trooper McClendon #663)I will see you again and in a way better place. I love you and miss you already.

I come to the ODMP often to remember my late fiancé Dennis. Everytime I come here it breaks my heart to know that yet another officer has fallen and that yet another family has to live their lives without the man they loved. My heart goes out to everyone who knew and loved Trooper McClendon, especially to his wife. Know that you are not alone in the "journey" that you walk. Should you ever need anything please don't hesitate to contact me. The Davis Co. Sheriff's Office in Iowa will always know how to reach me. You will be in my thoughts.

From reading the reflections left for William, he sounds like he was a great man with a beautiful spirit. Those of you who knew him in life were so blessed to have been able to share in it. I hope that you will all continue to find a way to celebrate and remember William's life and the MAN that he was. Remember that William's life was about so much more than the way he died. William will continue to live on as long as we continue to remember him.

Trooper McClendon, thank you for helping to make this world a little safer for us all. YOU will not be forgotten. Please continue to watch over all of us as only you can. If you happen to bump into my late fiancé Dennis up there give him a big hug for me and the kids. It's been three and a half years but we still miss him terribly.

Wishing you brighter and better days,

Jocelyne :)
