Hey Keith! I visit this site everyday and read all the great things people write about you. I think about you everyday and my heart aches that you aren't here with us but I know you are watching over all of us. I can't believe it's been three years already. I know people think I'm crazy when I'm driving down the road talking to you and Big and I know you both hear me. Please continue to watch over all of us I love you sooooooo much and miss you soooooo much.

Your heroism and service is honored today, the 3rd anniversary of your death. Your memory lives and you continue to inspire. Thank you for your service. My cherished son Larry Lasater was a fellow police officer murdered in the line of duty on April 24, 2005 while serving as a Pittsburg, CA police officer.
I am glad that justice was served for you and your family.
I hold them in my thoughts and prayers today as they spend another day mourning their beloved.
Rest In Peace

Remembering you on your 3rd anniversary in heaven. We think of you everyday. Your picture next to Dennis from your academy graduation is hanging proudly in our living room with an American flag bead draped around it. You are so special to us, even now, and will always be in our hearts.
God grant you eternal rest and peace.

We are honored that this photo is used. Our son, Dennis, was right next to Keith when this was taken at their Academy graduation and swearing in. You can see God shining his light on Keith that day; but we did not know how soon he would go to join God. We are very proud to have known Keith and to see the Keith Houts Act being enforced to protect officers everywhere.

You are not forgotten... Your name lives on.
Governor signs “Officer Keith E. Houts Act”
Gov. Bob Riley today signed into law a bill that strengthens penalties for those who attempt to elude law enforcement officers.
“When someone flees, they put themselves in danger, innocent people in danger and the law enforcement officers chasing them in danger. I hope these tougher penalties will make someone think twice if they get the idea of trying to outrun the police,” Riley said.
The new law, sponsored by Senator Rusty Glover, makes intentionally eluding an officer by any means punishable by up to one year in jail and a fine up to $2,000. If a person is harmed or killed during the chase, the crime becomes a felony punishable by up to 10 years in prison and a fine up to $5,000.
Under the new law, those who attempt to elude police will also have their driver’s license suspended for a period of time of six months to two years.
The new law is named the “Officer Keith E. Houts Act” in honor of a Montgomery police officer who was killed in 2006 by motorist while conducting a traffic stop. The killer fled and was captured in Georgia.

A Million Times
A million times we've needed you,
A million times we've cried.
If LOVE alone could have saved you,
You never would have died.
If all the world was ours to give,
We would give it yes, and more,
To see you coming up those steps,
And walking through the door.
To hear your sweet voice and see your beautiful smile,
To sit and talk a while,
To be with you that same old way,
Would be our fondest day.
Two smiling eyes closed to rest,
GOD broke our hearts to prove to us,
HE only takes the best.
We love and miss you so much Keith, there isn't a day that goes by that we don't think about you.

Keith,
It was an honor learning about you today. I to am a police officer and reservist, and I thank you for your service. I wrote a term paper regarding overturned verdicts, and I came across your incident. It was ironic how your story reflected a lot of memories of my own. Thank You, as I am sure your grace has shined upon me. It is sad that in the week you were fighting for your life, my family was celebrating the life of our twins. I am sorry I couldn't of had your 6, but stay the course & I'll see you on the beat brother!

Keith you'll never know how much you've touched my life. There's not a day that goes by that I don't think of you, your wife, and your parents. I see the pain that is in their eyes at the police memorial services and they are always there. They are always so strong. Oh how I want so much to come up to them and hug them but I know that I will break down in tears. You know that we are supposed to be strong and not show our emotions but I know that my true feelings would come pouring out.
I've hurt so much since your passing and I know everyone else here at the PD has too. The additional loses of Eddie and Ken have just added to the pain. You will always be in my mind and heart, along with Eddie (Cricket & Robert) and Ken. You have made me such a stronger person and I will never forget you brother.

Keith it is Thursday Oct. 2nd. One week after Judge Hobbs handed down his decision to Mario, he took no time to let us know his decision, DEATH which was the right thing to hand down in this case, the family thanks them very much for this. Ellen Brooks and her staff done a wonderful job in your trail, we will alway be very thankful to them for the job that they done. So many of your fellow law enforcement brothers were there with us during the trail, we thank them for there support in this time.We still miss you very much and think about you every day. Keith, where do I being. It has been two years, a sad and hard day for all the family today, a day that we can't get back oh how we would love that. I remember like it was yesterday we was all in Montgomery, visiting you, talking to you, holding your hand, kissing your forehead and you wasn't able to do anything back. I just don't understand how somebody can do this to our love one, and we will never know. The family is so glad that Mario got the death penalty, even though it want bring you back to us. Keith we miss you so much and there isn't a day that goes by that we don't think about you. We love you so much Keith..
Goodbye for now, not forever.

Thinking of you and all of your loved ones on this day. I am glad that justice was swift in this case and also of the verdict as this individual has not only taken your life but has destroyed the future of all those that love you. I understand the feelings and heartache of your parents for I walk in their shoes and face each day with a broken heart. We all continue on with our lives and take one day at a time. Continue to keep watch over all of your loved ones and protect them from harm. You are a true hero.
