Officer Houts, I can't thank you enough for your service to your nation as a soldier and for your service to the city you called home as a police officer. My heart goes out to the family and friends of Officer Houts. As a veteran and a cop, I understand the irony of fighting overseas and surviving, only to come home and be taken by one crazy citizen. It's a tragedy. Officer Houts is a hero and will never be forgotten for his dedication.

I'm not quiet sure what is to be said. You know that we are all family in law enforcement, but the bond that MPD has is astonishing. To Mrs. Houts, on behalf of myself and the other police officer's wives, we love you and we are here for you. It's difficult to understand what you are going through. I have asked God to wrap his strong arms around you and to help you through the next few days, weeks, and months that lie ahead. You are in our prayers.
