Reflections for Officer Keith Edwin Houts
On September 28, 2006, Keith was shot during a routine traffic stop around 12:45pm A parents worse night mare. When we arrived at Jackson Hospital in Montgomery, Keith had the greatest doctor and nurse that God placed in our lives that days. We were told that if were lucky Keith would be a Christopher Reeves but God had other plans for Keith. On September 30, 2006, Keith when home to be with his Heavenly Father and what a day that was for Keith. We can only imagine what Heaven must be like. One of my favorite songs is I can only imagine, by Mercy Me. That song has new meaning for me today. Our sweet Keith no longer has to imagine what he will do when surrounded by His glory; he has seen His face. Keith left his pain and his sorrow, he is healthy, and whole. So now, I can only imagine. I imagine the smile on his face has never been more beautiful. Our son gone but not forgetten.

Keith you are thought of regularly and we will never forget you. It was such an honor to work with you and I am blessed to have had you as my partner the few times we rode as a 2 man unit. You always made roll call a blast. God has one of the best Guardians in his Heaven in you. Continue to watch over your family and loved ones as only you can.

On this beautiful April day, we thought of you, as we often do. That graduation picture means so much to us, as I took it that day. So many things happened that year (Barb's dad went to heaven just before you). We love your smile. You were such a good friend to our son, Dennis. Always in our thoughts. May you rest in peace.

I love you brother, you ment more to me than you ever knew.
You were the first brother to welcome me into the fraternial brotherhood of Tau Kappa Epsilon, and a inspiration to become a police officer.
I am unfortunately cannot be a officer anymore because of health issues but what u sacrificed for the citizens of Montgomery, Al will always be remembered.
Soon I will have the Montgomery Police Department Patch tattooed on my arm with your name and badge number so every one who sees it will know your story, and know what u gave for all of us and i carry dog tags with your picture on my guitar and every time i play the song i wrote for you it is always with me.
We will soon be reunited in God's kingdom.
Peace brother and yours "ALWAYS" in the bond.

Montgomery, Alabama, Police Officer Keith Houts, aka Sgt Keith Houts, Soldier, and member of the US Army Reserves, was a fine young man in the prime of his life when he was brutally murdered by a man so mean, cold-hearted, and full of hatred that he once smirked at Keith's grieving wife when the two were brought together in a court of law. Sadly, Officer Keith Houts was not the only person who lost his life to the crimal, and the void created amongst family, friends, and comrades is a chasm so deep and painful that only God can heal. Keith's life is a legacy to all people who are willing to stand up and fight for what is good and decent in the world, not the least of which are the individual freedoms and liberties that Americans all too often take for granted.

Keith,
It will be 4 years tomorrow since you left us. You have not been forgotten. I know that you are looking down on us all from heaven. I still think about you all the time but especially this time of year when you were shot and the days following.

Barbara and I think of you everyday. The picture of your graduation from the academy is proudly mounted on our living room wall for all to see. You are photographed next to our son, Dennis (your best friend and fellow officer on Montgomery PD). It has been 4 years now but you are in our hearts every single day. Your spirit lives on through your fellow Montgomery PD officers. May God grant you eternal rest.

Just learned of this page. I just wanted to say sorry to the family for your loss a few short years ago. I have been in law enforcement 10 years now and it's hard to read about issues like this. SORRY!
