I know what you are going through, we all share the same pain. He will live in your hearts forever.
HERO...you may rest

I attended your services in Montgomery and Gardendale, from what I saw your community and state will miss you and honored you as the hero you are. For over 100 miles of interstate there were people and LEO's on birdges and stopped along the interstate to honor you. Hopefully the words below will help all who are grieving.
Don't grieve for me, for now I'm free,
I'm following that path God laid to me.
I took His hand when I heard Him call,
I turned my back and left it all.
I could not stay another day
to laugh, to love, to work, or play.
Tasks left undone must stay that way.
I found that peace at close of day.
If my parting has left a void,
then fill it with remembered joy.
A friendship shared, a laugh, a kiss,
Ah yes, these things I too shall miss.
Be not burdened with times of sorrow,
I wish you the sunshine of tomorrow.
My life's been full, I've savored much,
Good friends, good times, a loved one's touch.
Perhaps my time seemed all too brief;
Don't lengthen it now with undue grief.
Lift up your hearts and share with me,
God wanted me now; He set me free.

Officer Houts, thank you for your dedicated service to both our country and the City of Montgomery. The thousands of people that packed the church today for your memorial service and lined Interstate 65 to bid you farewell, are a symbol of how just how much men and women such as yourself mean to us. It is a tradegy that we fail to express that appreciation until something like this happens. For that Office Houts, please forgive us.
To the entire Houts family, my heart aches for you. I lift you up in my prayers and ask that God hold you close and comfort you in the days to come.

Dear Brother,
It touched my heart today when we had your funeral. Over eight miles worth of people who knew you and knew what you did everyday. Thousands of people stood beside the road and on every overpass for eighty miles of interstate 65/85. I have broken down every day since that fateful day, but I just remember what you are hearing coming from God's lips right now. Well done my good and faithful servant.
I think back to our days in the Academy and who our instructor told us that there are sheep, wolves, and shepherds. You made the ultimate sacrifice doing what you loved to do, being a shepherd.
May you rest in peace brother and I hope you love patroling the streets of heaven as much as you loved patroling the streets of Montgomery. Please watch over the rest of us and give us guidance. Rest in Peace brother and continue to walk the Thin Blue Line.

Our thoughts and prayers go out to Officer Houts family and MPD. As a former MPD officer from 95-99 and also having just gone through losing a fellow agent three months ago, I know the pain and grief you feel. Just know that Officer Houts is a hero and all of law enforcement mourns with you. Officer Houts made the ultimate sacrifice trying to do his job to make the city a safer place. Rest in peace Officer Houts, you will never be forgotten.

Officer Houts stopped me for speeding several months ago while I was traveling through Montgomery. While he could have given me a ticket, he simply warned me and let me go. He noticed the teddy bear in my backseat and reminded me that if I died my child would have no father. I remembered him because of his rare name, I'll never forget him for his sacrifice and way beyond professional behavior that day.
May he rest in peace and may his family find in his memory, "echoes of mercy and whispers of love."

Officer Houts - I salute you for your service to MPD and our country. You knew the risks and still chose to take on this service. For that we will always be thankful. You did what you were called here to do. You were a faithful servant and one that God is commending for a job well done right now. Go now and rest in peace.
Ashley - I do not know what you are feeling. As the wife of a fellow officer I can only imagine. I do know that God has promised to never leave us. He is with you and I know he has his arms around you and will comfort you as no one else can. Lean on him and draw your strength from him and find assurance that you will see Keith again one day. You will be in our prayers.
Family and fellow officers - You too will be in our prayers. Thank you for sharing Officer Houts with us. We will always be thankful for him and the sacrifices he made. Thank you to each Officer he leaves behind. I know you have heard this many timess over the past few days. I pray you hear it for many more days to come. Police Officers are rarely told this. Remember, God says venegence is mine. He will see that justice is done here. I pray God will comfort and protect each of you.
