Leave a Reflection

Reflections for Deputy Sheriff Vernon Matthew Williams

My heart was both saddened and sickened when I saw the news flash the other day about this senseless tragedy. Some consolation was taken today when I learned that justice has prevailed, but the price is always a little too high. This time two heroes were taken from us - that's right, two heroes. If Diogi could speak to us I know he would have said he shared the same love for the job that I'm sure Deputy Williams showed every day he suited up for work. My sincerest condolences to the Williams family and the Polk County Sheriff's Office...the absence of these two heroes on this Earth will sting, but a new guardian angel has earned his wings and will keep a watch from above with a faithful companion at his side. Godspeed, brother Williams and Diogi.

Thank you for your service and sacrifice. Please God...let his name be the last.

IF I SHOULD FALL

IF SOMEDAY GOD ASKS ME TO GIVE MY ALL &
ANSWER EARLY MY FINAL CALL

TELL STORIES, LAUGH AND DRINK...OUR
TIMES TOGETHER, PAUSE & THINK

AS I FOLLOW STEPS OF HEROES PASSED...SAY
A PRAYER, THAT I'M THE LAST

FOR YOU DEAR FRIEND, GUN OR KNIFE...KNOW
I GLADLY, LAY DOWN MY LIFE

BUT IF YOU'RE SAD & OUGHT TO GRIEVE,
PONDER...FOR OUR CAUSE I CHOSE TO LEAVE

AND WHEN YOU'RE OLD, SIGHT GROWING

WE'LL MEET

AND THOUGH OUR JOB WITH DANGER FROUGHT,

I would just like to say, how sorry, and shocked i am to hear of the passing of officer Matt Williams, and his K-9 Partner, Diogi. I am also deeply saddened, as life just seems to be worthless to some people. I hope you catch that MF, and make him swing. My prayers are with the officers family. Thankfully, here in the UK, gun crime is not quite as prevalent, but we all face risks on a daily basis, and thank god, we have brave men and women such as officer Williams protecting our communities. Because without them, where would we be. RIP friend.

There is such a great bond between a K-9 officer and his dog that it is only fitting that God decided to take them both at the same time. Rest in peace brother.

I am a former PCSO member and I mourn with my first police family today, yet it never ceases to amaze and humble me how all members of the law enforcement family come together in the face of adversity. I did not know D/S williams or Diogi, as I left Polk County in 1989, yet they are my family and they will be sorely missed. My sympathies go out to the family of D/S Williams, as well as to his larger family of co-workers and friends.
