Matt, you and I were sworn in together, thats when our friendship started 12 yeares ago. We were stragers to one another that day, but not for long. Your personality would not allow it. The community loved you, and going into the K-Ville COPS area after you left some very bing boots for me to fill. When asked for help you never said no, helping a friend move while your family was ill. Sholder to sholder we worked together after Charlie ripped though Polk County. You were a sholder to cry on and the joker to make us smile, even in the hardest of times. We will miss You and Diogi will be greatly missed but never forgotten. God Peace

You took a deamon head on, no questions asked, and with your bravery took him off the streets for the rest of us to live in peace.

You were a hero everyday that all rookie Deputies looked up too. On September 28, 2006, at 11:30am you became a National Hero.

America and the citizen's of Polk County can now cast their fears aside and sleep well tonight thanks to you.

It was a pleasure and honor to work side-by-side with you, and I will never forget you!

May You Rest In Peace.

It is with immeasurable sadness that I leave this post for Deputy Sheriff Matt Williams and K-9 Deputy Diogi, their families and the Polk County Sheriff's Office.

For the past few days we all watched the news as it unfolded regarding the incident involving the two Polk County deputies with K-9 Deputy Diogi and their interaction with yet another cold hearted, cold blooded individual who apparently could have cared less about anyone other than himself. Deputy Williams and Diogi encountered some of the most adverse conditions while engaged in the performance of their duties and ended by paying the ultimate price with their lives. They had tread where most others would be afraid to go. That is the life of a K-9 officer as they are many times, subject to "immediate need" situations.

All too often the word "hero" is used but in this case for Deputy Sheriff Matt Williams and K-9 Deputy Diogi it really does carry full merit. Unfortunately, most heroes are remembered because they have paid the ultimate price and are now with us in spirit.

I did not know Deputy Williams but from what I have read and heard he was a role model deputy setting the example for many others to emulate and follow.

I hope that over time the following days will help to bring you each a little more peace and some form of relief from your grief.

Respectfully submitted,

Matt, tonight as my family said our evening prayers, we prayed for you, your family, and fellow Deputies. We asked the Lord to especially help your wife and children during this tragic time. We pray they get all the support they will need. May you rest in peace brother, and may the Good Lord bless, guide, and comfort your family till you re-unite with them in Heaven. Amen.

I will remember your dad as a true American Hero and friend to all. His light will shine for ever because of his faith and devotion to all he came in contact with. No greater love than to lay your life down.

I first came across this poem in Kunsan AB Korea, K-9 unit, 1983, it hang in the halls of our building as a reminder. I dedicate it to Deputy Williams and his k-9 partner.

"The Nightstalkers"

My eyes are your eyes, to watch and protect you and yours.
My ears are your ears, to hear and detect the evil minds in the night.
My nose is your nose, to scent the invaders of your domain.
And so you may live,
My life is also yours...

To the family, friends and co-workers of Deputy Williams, I offer my heartfelt sympathy. Know that Matt and Diogi are in heaven together for all eternity and are watching over those they love.

I remember watching Sheriff Judd as he declared on national TV that the coward who gunned down Matt, Diogi and wounded the other deputy would be found and brought to justice. I was pleased to learn that the cop killer died hiding in the dirt like the snake he was. As Matt and Diogi spend eternity in heaven, their killer will spend eternity where he belongs...burning in hell! Good job, SWAT team members!
