Both Kent and I along with PFC.Brian Gormley (Md.Nat.Cap.Pk.Polce/K9)heard about the devistating news involving Dep.Williams and K9 Diogi's murder and we immediately decided to drive to Florida and attend his funeral. We were OVERWHELMED with the support from the citizens and were greeted warmly by all. Although having never met Dep.Williams, it was an honor to be part of the memorial service of this dedicated hero. Our prayers go out to the Williams family and all of his fellow deputies that he left behind.

I met Matt at a K-9 school in North Carolina earlier this year.We talked and laughed about our jobs and the dogs. I spoke with him and e mailed him after the school. I felt like i knew him all my life he was an outstanding K-9 officer and a good friend. My thoughts and prayers are with Matts family and the Polk Co. sheriffs Office. My brother you will be missed.

I never knew you,
But we are brothers,
I never met you,
But we are brothers,
Our paths never crossed,
But we are brothers,
I have never patrolled in your town,
But I know we have been on duty together,
just in another town.
And we are brothers.
And as a brother,
I feel the pain,
I feel the hurt,
And I feel the sadness that only a brother can undergo.
The sacrifices that each of us make everyday in nothing compared to the one you and your fellow officers have accepted.
One that everyone one of us is aware could happen
Any day, any moment, any second.
You have made me proud,
You have made my job easier because
I am more aware.
I am more cautious
And I will never forget you.
May God hold you in his hand and have you rest in peace

I hold the US & Florida dear as I have relatives over there, The thoughts & prayers of my family and I are with you, your family and co workers

I knew Matt and had worked with him on several calls over the years. Matt will be sorely missed and I will never forget his passing. Being at the funeral, in the procession, and at the grave side was such an honor for me. It was the least I could do to show my respect for a fallen brother. I continue to be touched at the outpouring of public support for the family and for the law enforcement community. May we never forget the sacrifice that Matt and Diogi made for our protection.

We have never met the Williams family, and our only affiliation is through a message posted on a Yahoo site for Rainbow Girls. We could not pass up the opportunity to express how grateful we are that there are men like Sheriff Williams ready and willing to protect the rest of us. Our thoughts and prayers are with you. May it give you some comfort to know that there are Rainbow friends everywhere sending thoughts and prayers your way.

As a citizen, the Cop is the one you depend on to run into the place that others run away from. As a Cop, the K-9 unit is the one you depend on to run into the place that Cops don't enter without that handler and K-9. That is a telling and true statement. K-9 handlers and their partners go from high risk incident to high risk incident, day after day. They are the ones, we the Cops, depend on when we are most at risk. They are the ones we most depend on when the job JUST HAS TO GET DONE!
God bless the bravest of the brave. The team that can never be compromised. Mrs. Williams and family, I pray you know the honor you hold in your hands and the gratitude the county, state and country hold in their hearts for you and your loss!
Godspeed Matt, we'll take the baton from here brother!

My sister,

We, your Rainbow family, cannot begin to feel your pain, but you should know we are crying with you. Remember your lesson at the Fourth station:

"It may seem strange that we should direct your mind to the thought of death, you so young, so fair, your years so tender, every hope and every ambition just begins to bud and bloom in your life."
"Yet remember, however fair, however hopeful, we would teach you the lesson that death is no respector of persons."

The Rev. W. Mark Sexon

I wish there was more I could do for you than offer cold word on a page and prayers in my heart.

I have known Matt Williams for about 7 years. I really got to know Matt when i entered in to the K-9 unit in 2002. As most new K-9 handlers experience you will take 1 step forward and 2 steps back while training. One day after training I asked Matt what I could do to help my K-9 with some issues we were having. Matt opened up a new world for me sharing his knowledge and using differnt training techniques. Matt was open minded and sometimes worked out of the box to accomplish his goals. Within a few weeks i began to see positive changes in my K-9 and also within myself. Matt could bring out the good in anything and in anyone. Matt went above and beyond other trainers. He didn't meet the standard he rose above it. Matt made me a better handler and a better person. Matt I know you went to battle for me on more than one occasion. You just do not know how much i appreciate it. I will do everything in my power not to let you down. You are and will always be an inspiration to me and to this team. You will forever be my mentor and I want to say thankyou.

Hope is an anchor and love is a ship, time is the ocean and life is a trip
You don't know where you're going, ‘till you know where you're at
And if you can't read the stars, well you better have a map
A compass and a conscience, so you don’t get lost at sea
Or on some lonely island, where no one wants to be

From the beginning of creation, I think our maker had a plan
For us to leave these shores and sail beyond the sand
And let the good light guide us through the waves and the wind
To the beaches in a world where we have never been
And we'll climb up on a mountain, y'all we'll let our voices ring
Those who've never tried it, they'll be the first to sing

Whoa, my, my
I'll see you on the other side
If I make it
And it might be a long hard ride
But I’m gonna take it
Sometimes it seems that I don’t have a prayer
Let the weather take me anywhere
But I know that I wanna go
Where the streets are gold
‘Cause you'll be there
Oh, my , my

You don’t bring nothing with you here
And you can’t take nothing back
I ain’t never seen a hearse, with a luggage rack
So I've torn my knees up prayin’
Scarred my back from fallin’ down
Spent so much time flying high, till I’m face first in the ground
So if you're up there watchin’ me, would you talk to God and say,
Tell Him I might need a hand to see you both someday

Whoa, my, my
So I'll see you on the other side
If I make it
And it might be a long hard ride
But I’m wanna take it
Sometimes it seems that I don’t have a prayer
Let the weather take me anywhere
But I know that I wanna go
Where the streets are gold
‘Cause you'll be there
Oh, my , my
Cause you'll be there
Oh, my ,my
