I'm still thinking about you and DiOGi every single day. Although I never met you, you touched my life and your passing had such a profound impact on my life that I can't even begin to explain....I guess it maybe has something to do with the brother/sisterhood of law enforcement officers, particularly k9 officers. I live hundreds of miles away from where you lived and died, but I would have given anything to have been there to help you. I am so very sorry.

Matt was an exceptional Deputy, K-9 handler, and friend. I miss him. I know he would have said, I'd rather it be me than you. Law Enforcement lost a brother but gained guardian angel K-9 unit Matt and Diogi.

As a member of the Thin Blue Line, I participated in an event that all law enforcement officers hope to never be involved with. I said good bye to a fellow co-worker. Matt, like you, he was doing what he wanted to do... stop bad guys. Also like you, he was gunned down just hours after your tragic, senseless incident.

"Among us, sent down from heaven,
are those that walk a thin blue line, that's a given.
Like guardian angels to watch over me and you,
are those that wear the uniform of blue.
We only see them as traffic stops,
we do not call them friends... just cops.
We pray we never have a chance meeting,
we never pass along a greeting.
But they are so much more than this,
they simply do not see the world as bliss.
But they look into the corners of our deepest fears,
they walk a beat, they dry a tear.
They bring a message to our home,
when all is not well, and we are alone.
They come to us, no matter the need,
they handle the problem, complete the deed.
They lay their personl feelings aside,
they do their job, they have great pride.
And if one should fall among life's things,
the badge they wear, turns to wings."

I want you to know that even tho we did not know you, we send our deepest sympathy to your family.

It takes a special man to become a handler; patience, understanding and courage, which are qualities you must have held. We were at the Nationals in St. Paul when we heard the news of the loss. You were honored by all officers and spectators. I do not believe there was a dry eye in the audience as the story was told. Thank you for being a couragous man.

Matt. The sacrifice that you and DIOGI gave us, gives us freedom to live a safe life. Although I only met you once in Lakeland when I brought over 2 of the Tampa Bay Bucs to the Civic Center, you were nice enough to take the time to escort us in and stayed close and looked over us and for that we thank you. I returned again from N.E. St. Pete. to bring Buc Dan Buenning #72 for a different reason, to attend your funeral escorted by Tampa S.O. Dan tripped in animal hole in the grassy knoll by the pond getting out of the S.O. cruiser. A variety of different agency officers helped me get his 300 pounds up and he still insisted and limped an acre across to get to you my brother. He refused medical attention in pain and sat in the back of the church with me by your's and Diogi's memorial on the couch. In doing the promotions for the Bucs, we have some great memories, but never such a heartfelt outcry and sorrow from a community such as yours. On the way home, we were running late and I went on as scheduled to do the radio show for Brian Fasullo on 1040 am from the back seat of the unmarked unit. Dan and I told the public of our afternoon with you and the saddness we shared with your brothers about the love and support that you received. We will return again and visit you, your family and your law enforcement brothers again and we will do a huge fund raiser for you and your family after the first of the year. Matt, You have taught me to be brave and to have courage in the face of adversity and now you are my hero my brother.

Though I did not know Deputy Williams it still hurts me deeply to read of your passing. We lost an officer and I lost a friend a week before your passing. Though the person that did this to you is gone, we'd trade you being here any day instead of him. God bless you and your family and may God now take you in his loving arms.

I would just like to express my condolences to the family, friends and fellow officers of Officer Williams. Though I did not know him personally I do know the feeling of losing a man like him. He is a hero. He will never be forgotten. I am sure that Matt and Diogi are united in Heaven.
