Hi guys,

I can't believe it's been a year, it's still so real it seems like yesterday. CR 35 is being dedicated to you both this Friday. Connie made sure that happened. I have a conference to attend in Dayton so I can't be at the dedication, but my heart will be here. That day will be difficult for all of us, even though we know you're in a better place. You are still deeply loved and sorely missed.

I attended the Ohio State Highway Patrol's memorial service for the first time this past May and was moved by the dedication the Patrol has for remembering it's fallen officers. I was also greatly moved by the number of family members who come back year after year to honor their loved ones...some who have died over 50 years ago.

My boyfriend is a trooper with the Ohio State Highway Patrol. I have always been proud of his job and his affiliation with the Patrol, but am even more so after attending the service. People always use the "words" "you will never be forgotten. The family of OSHP live by those words.

Hey Dale,

We are all struggling with the fact that it has almost been one year since you and Trooper Risner left us. I can still remember the first time I met you. You were just one of those people who gained the respect of everyone so quickly. You were a no nonsense kind of guy and we all respected you for that. I will always admire you for the work you did here in Gallia County. Your influence is still carried with me to this day and I will keep it with me always. Please, Dale, continue to watch over us and guide us. You will never be completely gone as you have found your place in the hearts of so many citizens in Gallia County. I can only dream of making the influence you have left behind. I am so proud to have the opportunity to say that I served along side you. My admiration for you will never diminish. I will always do my best to serve my community in the same manner as you and I look forward to seeing you once again when I too am called home one day. Please continue to watch over us all. We miss you, sir. We miss our friend and our comrade. Always.

Hey buddy
Guess what We won our homecoming game 29-7 You helped us through that game! Thank You so much! You were on our minds that whole game I cant believe its been almost a year. Your in our hearts and prayers..

September 18, 2007

I have known Sgt Holcomb for many years anywhere from assisting on crashes to public meetings to criminal investigations. Know one will ever know how much you, Sgt Holcomb, have given to the citizens of Gallia County. Sgt Holcomb was a very kind hearted man with yet a stern demeanor. Sgt Holcomb is a man by no means then do what is right for his comrades and the public. I remember the day Sgt Holcomb first attended the Gallia County Firefighters Assocation meeting. It was a moment in time that set a lasting vision and memory. Dale was able to bring the fire service and the Highway Patrol in Gallia County together in an outstanding working relationship. Since that time members were always happy to see Sgt Holcomb walk through the doors as they knew they were about to hear a war story. Although Sgt Holcomb has not attended a meeting since before September 28, 2006, he is still represented there by a comrade.

As the one year anniversary approaches of your and Trooper Risner's untimely death, I can't help but still ponder on a daily basis of the tragic news I got by a co-worker that Sgt Holcomb and Tpr Risner were reassigned as our guardian angels. There is not a day that goes by that your reassignment doesn't cross my mind when I slip into my uniform and prepare for my tour hoping and praying that I will have the opportunity to go home.

Sgt Holcomb, all I can say is that you are one fine comrade, dad, husband and most importantly, a friend.

Sarge,
It seems so unreal that it has been almost a year since we have talked or laughed together. I think of you and Josh everyday and without thinking there is always somekind of story that comes to mind. Your friendship is greatly missed but is always a thought away. Wish you were still here. Love always.

Hey it's just me

I haven't been on for awhile, just been so busy around here. We made it through the fair, Tyler won the overall breed with his Angus Heifer, You would have been so proud. The fair was just so different this year. We didn't grill out any, John had to go over the hill everynight to eat.
I went and bought a new truck Dale, One that you always loved , you would laugh at me if you could see me in it. Today James and I took Trent and got him a dirt bike, you know his old one was so small. And tomorrow he gets his Drivers Lic. I hope I have taught him to be safe on the road, You had the pleasure of teaching Tyler .... I think Trent will be just fine. Tyler will soon be 18 years old it is hard to believe that he will be 18 how time flies . A state trooper died today Dale not sure if you knew him or not but he leaves a wife and three kids I would like to get in touch with them.
Well I'm going to go for now
WE LOVE YOU AND MISS YOU EVERY SINGLE DAY
~love always, Me and the boys ~

Hey Sarge, well the fair is just about ready to start in a few days. This was one of your most favorite times of the year. You always took time off of work to be at the fair with Tyler and Trent in 4-H. Another thing was the camping, and those soup beans! Man those were the best. I hope you know that "You sure are missed and you will always be missed!!"
"Bean" is getting married this Saturday and I wish you could be there. Who ever thought that "Bean" would be married! Shallon is a wonderful person and you would be proud of o'l Jakester! He is adjusting very well in I-town. He is coaching and loving every minute of it. Well better go for now, missing you Sarge. ALWAYS

Hey it's me,

We made it home from Florida, Flyin' was great.. Now we are just getting ready for Louisville. We leave thursday for a cattle show then we got the big county fair. Then we are going to the state fair.
Everything is fine here, the boys are good, Trent is about to get his driving lic.

The guys at the post are fine, The ones that I care about anyway. Your car is being used, It makes me sick to see it being used by someone other then you !!! The highway sign is almost ready to be put up, I've got a date in mind for that I've got to see if the troopers that I want there can be there on that day. And The memorial at the post is getting started ..

I've got to go for now ,We miss you and love you !!

July 24, 2007

Hey Sarg,
Thinking of you today wondering what you would think about everything going on and has happened since the wreck. Some say you would be ashamed, I don't think so. Maybe it would call for a trip to the shed ,who knows !
One of you buddy's is getting married soon, wish you could be here.
Think of you often

July 16, 2007

Hey it's me,

Haven't been on for awhile, Sorry !! We are so busy here, tryin' to keep everything going.
The boys and I are flyin' out for Florida Thursday. YES I said Flyin' !! I think it will be fun. We just got back from Tulsa. We had alot of fun there . Tyler done very good with his Heifer, he got 2nd. So you would be very proud. Trent had a really good time hangin' out with the Clarks. We are tryin' to get everything ready around here for the Fair.. That is soooo much work.
Yesterday the Boys and I got invited to the Gov. Mansion in Columbus. Tyler didn't want to go so Trent and I went . That was really cool. I talked to some Troopers up there that guard the Mansion, they were really nice.
Major Taylor had a pretty bad wreck on her Motorcycle last week, I hope everything is O.K with her.
As far as the guys at the post don't really see much of them . Some call me once in awhile. Your sign for Jackson Pike is done, it is really nice. Bridget and I have got to set a date for the county to put it up.
got to go for now, We think of you all the time and miss you.
Love Ya !

July 6, 2007

Hey Sarge, just thought I would send a note and let you know that you have been on my mind more so than normal. Maybe you are trying to tell me something but you are never far away from my thoughts. I think of you and Josh on a daily basis. I sure miss ya and I know that several here at the post miss you too. We talk about you and Josh all the time. Some things are not the same around here but we will mutter through. I haven't talked to Connie lately and I hope she is doing ok.

My "butts" are doing good. Ryan turned 4 in May, Brandon is already 10 months and Herb is just a pain in the behind. The boys are growing up too fast. We are moving forward on the house and hopefully will be in our new house by the 1st of the year. I can't wait. Well I better go for now, I wanted to wish you a Happy 4th and tell you I miss your friendship Sgt.
