Reflections for Police Officer Thomas Alan Cook

Officer Cook,

Gratitude and thanks will never be enough to thank you for making the ultimate sacrifice. God bless and keep your family during their time of need and to fill their empty hearts!

May you rest now but know that you will never be forgotten!

Cookie,

You sir, are a true gentlemen and a hero. No man had a greater love for his wife and children. We will get those responsible for your death.
Rest in peace with the Lord, brother.

Many a night I've gotten off at Harvey and Sibley. I saw the notices of the reports of robberies and tried to be more careful. I've always prayed for traveling grace and mercy, and when I saw the police cars that sat silently in the corners of the lots, I thanked God for sending his angels to protect me. I'd like to think that he was called home to special duty, and yet still looks out for me. God makes no mistakes. We at Amtrak hold you in our prayers.

I am so very sorry to hear about what happened to Officer Cook.My memories of him extend back several years to when I was a kid growing up in Riverdale on Emerald Ave.He lived only a few doors down,but the kindness of his heart showed that he was a good man who loved his family and I believe made him the best of the best when he was with the Riverdale P.D..

O God I can't leave all my fond memories of him but I can say that I remember when he helped me catch my Labrodoer Retreiver 'Scotty'.I was so greatful,and he seemed so passionate about animals,family and life.

Such a good hearted human being has been taken unfairly from us.May God bless his family and rest his soul.

My deepest sympathies to Officer Cook's family, friends and family in blue. We lost one of our own officers on Sept. 20th under very similar circumstances. I understand the mix of feelings and grief you are dealing with. May it comfort you to know that brothers and sisters in blue across the nation and even around the world are saying prayers for you. May God bless and comfort each one of you in this most diffiult time.

BIRTH IS A BEGINNING
AND DEATH A DESTINATION,
AND LIFE IS A JOURNEY;
FROM CHILDHOOD TO MATURITY
AND YOUTH TO AGE:
FROM INNOCENCE TO AWARENESS
AND IGNORANCE TO KNOWING;
FROM FOOISHNESS TO DISCRETION
AND THEN, PERHAPS TO WISDOM;
FROM WEAKNESS TO STRENGTH
OR STRENGTH TO WEAKNESS---
AND OFTEN, BACK AGAIN;
FROM HEALTH TO SICKNESS
AND BACK, WE PRAY, TO HEALTH AGAIN;
FROM OFFENSE TO FORGIVENESS,
FROM LONELINESS TO LOVE,
FROM JOY TO GRATITUDE,
FROM PAIN TO COMPASSION,
AND GRIEF TO UNDERSTANDING---
FROM FEAR TO FAITH;
FROM DEFEAT TO DEFEAT TO DEFEAT –
UNTIL, LOOKING BACKWARD OR AHEAD,
WE SEE THAT VICTORY LIES
NOT AT SOME HIGH PLACE ALONG THE WAY,
BUT IN HAVING MADE THE JOURNEY, STAGE BY STAGE,
A SACRED PILGRIMAGE,
BIRTH IS A BEGINNING
AND DEATH A DESTINATION
AND LIFE IS A JOURNEY,
A SACRED PILGRIMAGE—
TO LIFE EVERLASTING.

Officer Cook's life was indeed a sacred pilgrimage. Rest in peace my brother.
