Reflections for Police Officer Thomas Alan Cook

Tom,
We wanted to wish you a very special fathers day. I know you are with your dad and my dad. Please let them know we miss them so much it hurts. We will go to your favorite restaurant and enjoy the day together. We bought a new flag just for you. A Army flag. Happy Fathers Day. We love and miss you so much. Thank you for watching out for us.

Still there. Justce WILL prevail!

Tom,
I felt you presence this week when Jessica was sick. Thank you for giving me the strength to get up and help her. I felt the need to go to church this week. Knowing that you were there for me. It was hard, but we did it. Jimmy and Jessica really had a good time. I think it will help all of us. We also stopped by to see you. They each left you large flags and flowers. I thought about you a lot this holiday. It didnt feel right. Not watching all of the war movies on tv. Even our favorite. Kelly's Heroes. Not a day goes by that we dont think about you and miss you. The neighborhood kids are asking if we are going to have movie night. Jimmy said after June 6. Just for you he said. Please continue to give us the strength to go on without you. Watch out for all of you friends at Riverdale, Metra and other men and women in blue every day. Love Pammy

I was inspired to be in Washington DC where you and our fellow fallen POs were honored. We toasted a shot of Jack Daniel's to you. I was impressed by the wind you stirred up, when we were waving our blue silks, at the close of the memorial.

Rest in peace, brother.

Dearest Son: What a memorable time in Washington, where all the fallen officers received the honors they were due. We were treated with kindness and respect by everyone. There were tears, laughter and remembering with other families and police officers. Your children had 2 happy days at the FBI, games, food, fun and counseling. They realized they were not alone. The vigil was one I will never forget, with candlelight and the thin blue line. We went to the WALL with Frank, Rich and Potato George -hope you were happy with all the rememberances we left for you. Most impressive was receiving the medal of honor in your name on the Capitol Lawn. Thanks for your sign of approval when we were all waving our blue silks in the air and a rush of wind came up showing me you were all waving back. Forever in my heart, Your loving Mother

Tommy
We will be leaving for Washington D. C. in a few days for another beautiful ceremony to honor you and others who are no longer with us. But it will be like burying you for a third time. I'm so proud to say that you Are and will always be my brother. Stand by our sides and make us strong for you. After D.C. we will all have to find our way, however that may be without you. I dont know if that will ever be possible. Love you little brother

April 10, 2007

I just want to start by saying that Thomas is an American hero and will never be forgotten by his brothers and sisters in blue. Now let me introduce myself. My name is Bryan Cilento and I am an Police Officer in Chesapeake, Va. I am participating in the Police Unity Tour for the second year. Many people, law enforcement included are not familiar with this event. Almost 400 riders will leave Portsmouth, Va this year and travel 250 miles to our nations capital by way of bicycle. Another 500 to 600 riders will do the same leaving from New Jersey. We will meet in the middle just outside D.C. and ride to the National Police Memorial as we do every year. This is an incerdible sight that your family should make every effort to witness. We will arrive at the memorial at about 2 p.m. and if any of your family can make I would love to meet them at that time. I was assigned as one of the officers that would ride in your name, and believe me I am honored.

Unfortunatley on 2/23/07 I conducted a traffic stop in my patrol area off two susptected drug dealers. During the stop the driver was asked to get out of the car, but he attempted to flee on foot. A fight between the suspect and myself ensued and I tore my ACL in my knee. I did get him into custody and due to the amount of drugs and the gun he had on him, he will be charged federally by A.T.F. I on the other hand had surgery on 3/9/07 to repair my knee. This will prevent me from making the entire 250 mile journey this year. I was planning on not riding at all, until I found out who I was riding for yesterday and read your story. I have spoken to doctors who have advised me that a short 30 mile ride on flat land should not be a problem with only two months therapy under my belt. So the plan for now is to meet the crew in on day three of the ride and join them half way through the day for the ride into D.C. I think that I can make this small effort to honor a man that made the ultimate sacrifice.

Your family can contact me through my department or by way of my email address that is attached for more information on how to meet with me in D.C. if they will be attending. Rest easy brother, you have certainly earned it.
