Robbie,
I really do know what to say. I really miss you. You were such a great person. When I was in the eighth grade and you were a senior, you would drive to my house (which was way out of your way) and pick me up for band practice everyday. That is just the kind of guy that you were. I am also one of those that can not go into Sheetz without looking for you. I remember the last time that I saw you in Sheetz I was teasing you about getting coffee and donuts. We all used to tease you but we knew how much you loved being a cop. It is going to be so weird going to Nanny's for Thanksgiving and Christmas and not having you there. My heart breaks when I think about Karen and Chaytor going through life without you. Your mom, dad and brothers are also in my prayers. It is such a terrible tragedy to have lost you. We all miss you so much but I know that we will see you again in Heaven.

Thank you for your service to our community. We went to church together when we were young and I know you like me are saved by God's grace. Now you have crossed over to be with Jesus. I want you and other officers to know that God's word tells us to pray for those in authority. I as a christian follow that word and will continue to do so for all other officers here on earth. Robbie since you are with the Father I know now you stand in intercession for your fellow officers with Jesus. I offer you all a word of comfort: For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first: then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord. I don't count you as lost but as absent for a time. So I look foward to seeing you agian brother. Dwayne

I am not sure I am ready to write this. I miss you. Chaytor misses you. He looks around the house for you and says "Where Dada?". I don't know what to say accept "Dada's in heaven."
I never thought this would happen to us. I can't stop crying and praying that you walk in the door. I ache for your arms around me and your kisses on my forehead.
I don't know what else to write- I wish I could make it all go away. You and I have been together since high school and I don't know my way without you.
I wish I could see you one more time, but then I would only want more time.
I am so busy with meetings and paperwork that I sometimes forget why I am doing these things. Then I see you Virginia Tech hat or toothbrush and can't believe this really happened. I need you, Chaytor needs you!
I don't know what else to say- I feel so empty!

Robbie,
Words cannot do justice to the loss shared by your family, friends and myself. During your short life span you have truly touched more hearts that you know. I would like to say "thank you" for the endearing words of comfort when Mama passed away . . . I was not very positive or receptive at the time but on looking back, they really mean so much to me. You were trying to reach out and give comfort and let me know that indeed things would get better. Robbie, I am so poroud to have had a nephew of your stature--loved and respected by all. Karen and Chaytor will always have
someone to help lift them up thru their difficult time and to be there whenever needed. You are so fortunate to have had such a wonderful family--Mother, Father and Brother. We all miss you very much. I know that Heaven is a much better place because of you, Joseph, Geneo, Grandma and
Grandaddy. You will be forever in our hearts.
Love,

Robbie,
I'm going to miss you alot. You helped my family out so much and even though I used to pick on you about cutting your lights on to get to sheetz for doughnuts and coffee all the time. I know you really didn't.. Or did you? I still look for you everytime I see a cop going down the road, and everytime I pass sheetz it's a habit to look over and see if your there. Going to the Powhatan Rodeo would always be something to look forward to because you would be there to watch me. No one besides my sisters and my mom has ever seen me ride. You would pick on me and tell me if I hit barrels then you weren't going to stay, but the last time you watched I left them up!!!! I always loved talking to you because you would always give good advice. Your funeral was one of the saddest moments of my life but to see all those people honoring you really brought a smile to my face. Shelby and I said do you think Robbie really knew all of these people? Well no one had more heart at doing there job then you did. I pray for you, Karen, Chaytor, Uncle Charlie, Jean, Jason, and Little Charlie every time I get a chance. I know your not here with us but your watching over us above. Your missed more then you could ever imagine. Love ya!

ROBBIE,
GONE ARE THE DAYS OF YESTERDAY WHEN WE USED TO PLAY COWBOYS AND INDIANS AND SWISS FAMILY ROBINSON IN OUR FRONT YARD. YOU AND LISA WERE ALWAYS ON A TEAM AGAINST JASON AND ME. NOW THAT I THINK ABOUT IT THAT WASN'T VERY FAIR. JUST KIDDING. THOSE WERE THE GOOD OLE DAYS. WE USED TO TEASE YOU AND CALL YOU ROBERT "GIRL" GREEN INSTEAD OF ROBERT EARL. I KNOW YOU HATED THAT. SORRY!! THEN THERE WERE THE THANKSGIVING DAY FOOTBALL GAMES. I AM THANKFUL TO HAVE SO MANY GOOD MEMORIES. THEN WE ALL GREW UP AND STARTED OUR OWN LIVES. EVERYONE WAS PROUD TO HAVE YOU AS A POWHATAN COUNTY DEPUTY. WE USED TO TEASE OUR BOYS AND TELL THEM TO BUKLE UP OR TO BEHAVE OR WE WOULD HAVE TO CALL ROBBIE. IT WORKED FOR JUST A LITTLE WHILE UNTIL THEY MET YOU AND TALKED TO YOU. WHENEVER WE WOULD GO TO A FESTIVAL, FOOTBALL GAME OR RODEO THEY WOULD ALWAYS ASK IS ROBBIE GOING TO BE THERE? THEY DIDN'T ASK BECAUSE THEY WERE WORRIED, THEY WANTED TO SEE AND TALK TO YOU. WHEN WE DID SEE YOU THERE YOU ALWAYS TOOK TIME TO TALK TO THEM AND GET AN UPDATE ON ALL OF THE FAMILY ISSUES. YOU WERE TRULY AN INSPIRATION TO A LOT OF PEOPLE. I DO BELIEVE YOUR LEGACY WILL LIVE ON. YOU HAD A FUNERAL FIT FOR A KING AND YOU DESERVED EVERY BIT OF IT. YOUR LIFE WAS TOO SHORT. I FEEL LIKE WE WERE ROBBED TO HAVE LOST SUCH A GENUINE PERSON. THE NIGHT OF YOUR FUNERAL WHEN MY NOAH SAID HIS PRAYERS HE PRAYED "GOD, PLEASE LET ROBBIE WATCH OVER US." I KNOW YOU ARE AND YOU WILL DO ALL YOU CAN TO MAKE SURE EVERYTHING IS JUST FINE. I FEEL SUCH A GREAT SORROW FOR YOUR IMMEDIATE FAMILY. IT BREAKS MY HEART TO THINK OF CHAYTOR HAVING TO GROW UP WITHOUT YOU, KAREN TO GO THROUGH THE REST OF HER LIFE WITHOUT HER SOUL MATE, YOUR MOM AND DAD TO HAVE LOST THEIR SON, FOR JASON AND LITTLE CHARLIE TO HAVE LOST THEIR BROTHER. I KNOW THAT THEY ALL HAVE SUCH A GREAT SUPPORT SYSTEM TO HELP KEEP THEM STRONG AND TO TRY AND ACCEPT THIS TERRIBLE TRAGEDY. ROBBIE, YOU WERE A GREAT PERSON AND WILL BE MISSED TERRIBLY.

Hey Green, I can't put my true feelings into words. I can only say that your death has been a tremendous loss to our county, our state and our country. The outpouring of love and support from the citizens of our county proves that you were loved and respected. I can only say that it was a true honor and a privelige to work with you for the seven years. You made our department proud. May God hold you in his arms until we meet again. Rest in Peace, Brother.

Robbie and his brothers were much younger than myself but I knew that this family well. Robbie, your grandfather use to fit my brothers, sister and me for shoes at JCPenney when it was at the Southside Plaza. When reading some of these memorials made in your memory I realize HOW many people lives you had touched!!!!!!! You WERE a HUSBAND,FATHER,SON,BROTHER AND A LEADER IN THE COMMUNITY OF POWHATAN. This was a full plate that you carried but you did it well!!!! You are a role model for the youth of today as you had proved that it can be done. Because of your kindness and leadership your earthly family will be taken care until you meet again. Whenever I see an Angel I will give him the name of Robbie to honor you and what you meant in Powhatan Community. God rest your soul and offer guidence to your extended family.

Robbie, as many have said you will never be forgotten. You were a great asset to the community and you will be greatly missed. I went to High School with Robbie and had the pleasure of serving with him and his father Charlie Greene in the National Guard; the contribution this family has given to the community is extraordinary and appreciated by many. Robbie was a role model and admired by many people he never met. Our thoughts and prayers go out to your family. Rest in peace Robbie.

We knew Robbie, Karen & Jason through high school and the band. High school can be a trying time with adolescent turmoils and just the pressure of high school itself. No matter what conflicts were going on Robbie was always the
same and treated everyone with respect. He was an ubelievable leader and I can't think of anyone who knew him that wouldn't agree. He was someone that would make you laugh even if he wasn't trying to be funny, he just had that way about him, that you wanted to be near him. Even as teenagers, when we try to convince adults we know more than them, he showed my parents the utmost respect
when he was around them and in our home. We can thank his parents for raising such a kind, caring and respectfull individual. Not only did the Green's do it once but they did it three times with all their boys. That's how I know their family will be able to pull through his horrific tragedy. Between the strength and the closeness of the Green and Harrison families they will be strong for
Karen, Chaytor and each other. We wish all of them well during this difficult time in their lives. We are thinking about you all and have you in our thoughts and prayers. Robbie was an asset to his family, friends and community and will truly be missed.

Live a Life That Matters
by: Michael Josephson
Ready or not, someday it will all come to an end.
There will be no more sunrises, no minutes or days.
All the things you collected, whether treasured or forgotten, will pass to someone else.
Your wealth, fame and temporal power will shrivel to irrelevance.
It will not matter what you owned or what you were owed.
Your grudges, resentments, frustrations, and jealousies will finally disappear.
So too, your hopes, ambitions, plans, and to-do lists will expire.
The wins and losses that once seemed important will fade away.
It won’t matter where you came from, or on what side of the tracks you lived, at the end.
It won’t matter whether you were beautiful or brilliant,
even your gender or skin color will be irrelevant.
So what will matter?
How will the value of your days be measured?
What will matter is not what you bought, but what you built, not what you got, but what you gave?
What will matter is not your success, but your significance.
What will matter is not what you learned, but what you taught.
What will matter is every act of integrity, compassion, courage or sacrifice that enriched,
Empowered or encouraged others to emulate your example.
What will matter is not your competence, but your character.
What will matter is not how many people you knew,
But how many will feel a lasting loss when you’re gone.
What will matter is not your memories,
But the memories that live in those who loved you.
What will matter is how long you will be remembered, by whom and for what.
Living a life that matters doesn’t happen by accident.
It’s not a matter of circumstances, but of choice.
Choose to live a life that matters.
May we all live a life that matters . . . Robbie sure did! I just continue to be amazed at the outpouring of support from the community (and afar) and the number of lives that Robbie touched in some way. In talking to so many people over the last week, it hardly ever fails that they don't say "he was just such a GREAT guy" and mention Robbie's smile, I know I'll never forget that smile and thank goodness I can still see it when I close my eyes, which is more often than not here lately because of the tears. I hope and pray that God gives us all the strength to cope with the terrible loss and emptiness we all feel and that he helps us all to live more like Robbie did.

In the simple performance of duty,
he pinned on a badge,
checked his gear with a practiced eye,
and kissed his loved ones good-bye.
In the simple performance of duty,
he reported for work,
joked with his buddies at roll call,
and made his last trip down the squad room hall.
In the simple performance of duty,
he answered the call
to help the helpless, to find the lost,
no matter the danger or how great the cost.
In the simple performance of duty,
he lay down his life,
for those in peril he tried to save,
our brave friend went to his grave.
In the simple performance of duty,
we honor his deed,
as we carry him to rest in a flag-draped casket,
long after the world has forgotten, we shall never forget.
Never judge or regret, what he did, In the simple performance of duty."
