Reflections for Agent Michael Del Thomas
Mikey,
Another day living the dream. You taught a lot of young guys that. I just finished up a week long CIT training class and thought about you alot. It's hard to explain. Everything that we were taught in class, and alot of what I did during the role plaing exercises with distraught citizens made me think about how much you cared for people. It made me cry inside, but it made me a bit stronger. Summer is coming and the "scooters" are starting to come out again. I picture you sitting on the bike across at the Piper, just smiling from ear to ear. Because that's what you always did. And in my mind, that's what you always will do. My boys look at your picture and still remember you. Impressions and life lessons DO last forever, so will their memory of you.

Aloha Agent Michael D. Thomas,
Thank you for your service and dedication to your community and your country. You and all officers that continue to lay your lives on the line and pay the ultimate sacrifice to keep our communities and country safe, will NEVER be forgotten.
I personally pledge, (after one of Hawaii's own, Honolulu Police Officer Steve Favela, lost his life in the line of duty protecting our Commander in Chief, President George W. Bush), to become a continuum of the ODMP light. That light is in the form of an ODMP tribute. People from all walks of life, regardless of age, race, religion, profession, education, and geographical location can share here. That "LIGHT" comes from within the heart and soul of every person who cares to share a word or two on behalf of each and every fallen officer. Every fallen officer is an hero. The ODMP; Officer Down Memorial Page gives us a place to come together and share our feelings as one family. May we find comfort as we give comfort to the families who have lost a loved one.
As we say in Hawaii, “We are`Ohana.” We are family. God Bless this fallen hero. May we embrace him as one of our own family member; our `Ohana. No one will ever be able to replace you for you were unique and very special. No one; not in this lifetime. May God allow you to rest in His Divine peace.
Agent Michael D. Thomas, I wish you, your loved ones, your fellow officers, and friends, peace and love beyond all understanding.
--- May this Hawaiian prayer give all those who read it comfort. ---
THE PEACE OF " I "
KA MALUHIA O KA "I"
Peace be with you, All My Peace,
O ka Maluhia no me oe, Ku'u Maluhia a pau loa,
The Peace that is " I ", the Peace that is "I am".
Ka Maluhia o ka "I", owau no ka Maluhia,
The Peace for always, now and forever and evermore.
Ka Maluhia no na wa a pau, no ke'ia wa a mau a mau loa aku.
My Peace " I " give to you, My Peace " I " leave with you,
Ha'awi aku wau I ku'u Maluhia ia oe, waiho aku wau I ku'u Maluhia me oe,
Not the world's Peace, but, only My Peace,
The Peace of " I ".

Ka Maluhia o ka "I".

I really wish this could have gone down differently. The coward that shot you should not be here. I am sorry for your family and wish you would have at least had a chance. You will be missed and never forgotten. There is nothing you could have done. The whole thing just kills me.

Saint Michael, heaven's glorious commissioner of police, who once so neatly and successfully cleared God's premises of all its undesirables, look with kindly and professional eyes on your earthly force.
Give us cool heads, stout hearts, and uncanny flair for investigation and wise judgement.
Make us the terror of burglars, the friend of children and law-abiding citizens, kind to strangers, polite to bores, strict with law-breakers and impervious to temptations.
You know, Saint Michael, from your own experiences with the devil that the police officer's lot on earth is not always a happy one; but your sense of duty that so pleased God, your hard knocks that so surprised the
devil, and your angelic self-control give us inspiration.
And when we lay down our night sticks, enroll us in your heavenly force, where we will be as proud to guard the throne of God as we have been to guard the city of all the people.
Amen
Godspeed

Agent Thomas,
Thank you for your service and sacrifice to your community. I am sorry for not posting sooner, but the pain and shock of Detective Jared Jensen's death in Colorado Springs was still too fresh when your senseless murder occurred. As I prepare to attend yet another funeral of one of my co-workers tomorrow, I felt this was the right time for me to pay my respects to you as well. My heart aches for your family, friends, and fellow officers, and that is now intensified as yet another one of my fellow CSPD officers was gunned down last week. This has not been a good year for our two agencies because we lost 3 good people, but all of us appreciate all that you stood for and your ultimate sacrifice to your community. Rest in Peace and know that you will never be forgotten by your brothers and sisters in blue.

Your memorial was the first, and unfortunately not the last memorial that I will have attended. You will be missed but not forgoten. One of your sayings has stuck with me from that day, "What is right, is right." Since that day I am reminded to always do things the right way.
Rest in Peace Brother.

Agent Thomas,
Your death was a shock to everyone. No one would have imagined you would die in such a horrible way. I can't believe someone could do a random shooting like that. I did not personally know you but your death touched me. Having a father in law enforcement I fear that I will get a phone call one of these days with nothing but bad news. When I walk the thin blue line I hope to be a great officer just like you and everyone else who has risked their life. I did attend your funeral, and Aurora PD did a very good job putting everything together in their time of pain. I lost it when the last call went off at the cemetary, it was painful to hear the dispatcher and the bag pipes go. Everyone is praying for you and your family every day.

An endless mile; a bus wheel turning
A friend to share the lonesome times
A handshake and a sip of wine
So say it loud and let it ring

Reading of the death of Agent Thomas has deeply saddened me. While I live and work thousands of miles away, the love, respect and admiration from those who knew and worked with Agent Thomas is so very obvious in the reflections left in his memory. The loss of Agent Thomas is truly a tragic loss to the community he served, his family and to those brothers and sisters he served with. The timing and death of him serves a reminder to all of us in and out of uniform that life is a gift. Michael Thomas used his gift selflessly serving others so that they may have a better life.
I salute you Agent Thomas. My deepest admiration, thanks and respect go in memory of you to your family, friends and the Aurora Police Department. May God and those that have passed before you welcome you into the Heaven’s gates. Please watch over those of us left behind, as we continue to watch over those in our own communities. God bless you and the work you did.
Thank you for your service.

Mike Thomas was more than a police officer to me. Not only was he my PAR in my neighborhood, he became my friend.
Mike met me when I moved into my house here in Aurora, and found out he knew friends of mine and my family. A small world. He was always there for me and I for him. Mike IS the best of the best!
I could not make it to your funeral, Mike, I have personal problems I had to attend too, but I know your in heaven and more than likely riding your scoot and looking out for your fellow buddies, down here.
My heart and soul go out to your family and other friends in the community.
GOD BLESS YOU MIKE THOMAS !

My heart goes out to Mike's family. He was the best officer I ever had the honor of working with. From the day I started in 1986, I knew Mike and had great respect for him. Over the years I was lucky enough to work with him in Patrol and PAR. I will miss him and he is a hero to me forever.
