Reflections for Agent Michael Del Thomas

OUR THOUGHTS AND PRAYER GO OUT OF DETECTIVE'S THOMAS FAMILY AND THE AURORA PD DURING THIS DIFFICULT TIME. GOD BLESS YOU, BROTHER IN BLUE.

DETECTIVE RUTILO QUEZADA
SMITH CO SHERIFF TYLER, TX

September 26, 2006

It’s not always possible to tell what kind of person the honoree is/was from the memorial, unless of course there are glowing comments such as those listed here. Detective Thomas, you are obviously a very special person and will not only be a welcome addition in Heaven above, but will never be far from those you cared about the most here on Earth.

May your murderer face justice, whether here or in the here-after.

Rest in Peace, Brother and God Bless you and all those who were lucky enough to have met you.

Ptl. Jim Leahy, Jr.
Harvard University Police Dept.

To Detective Thomas' Family:

One of our employees put out an email from Ofcr Jason Pray. He used to work with Ventura PD. Our prayers and thoughts are with you and your family. Being a wife or daughter of a police officer is a very hard thing, because you just never know when your time is up. I can just imagine how hard it is for you and your family to lose a loved one who loved to be a police officer. So sorry for your loss.

Mike,
I am lucky to have known you for 16 years and enjoyed working patrol with you for several of those years. I am glad for all the memories that we shared. The times that we laughed so hard that we cried. You truely made our job fun. What I really liked was spending hours talking with you on cold winter nights when all was quiet. I loved the sparkle in your eyes when you would mention Nicole. Your whole face would light up with love for your little girl. I will forever remember your wonderful smile and kind heart. You were more than a friend, you were a big brother. Rest in Peace.

To my mentor and my friend. When I concentrated on what I disliked about the job you reminded me of all the things that make this such a great job. Always a smile and never a complaint. You will be missed Brother.

I come to the ODMP often to remember my late fiancé Dennis. Everytime I come here it breaks my heart to know that yet another officer has fallen and that yet another family has to live their lives without the man they loved. My heart goes out to everyone who knew and loved Detective Thomas. Know that you are not alone in the "journey" that you walk. Should you ever need anything please don't hesitate to contact me. The Davis Co. Sheriff's Office in Iowa will always know how to reach me. You will be in my thoughts.

From reading the reflections left for Michael, he sounds like he was a great man with a beautiful spirit. Those of you who knew him in life were so blessed to have been able to share in it. I hope that you will all continue to find a way to celebrate and remember Michael's life and the MAN that he was. Remember that Michael's life was about so much more than the way he died. Michael will continue to live on as long as we continue to remember him.

Detective Thomas, thank you for helping to make this world a little safer for us all. YOU will not be forgotten. Please continue to watch over all of us as only you can. If you happen to bump into my late fiancé Dennis up there give him a big hug for me and the kids. It's been three and a half years but we still miss him terribly.

Wishing you brighter and better days,

Jocelyne :)

I remember Mike from conversations at the department and his calls into the Records unit. I was extremely saddened to hear of his death. Mike has been in our thoughts and prayers, even our 3 year old said we need to "send him to Jesus." I assured him Mike was already there. Most of what I know about Mike has now come from the papers and other officers. It has been nice to hear of all his good deeds and everyone speaks so highly of him.

Mike - You will be missed! Thank you for your dedication, good-will to all, and for being a good friend.

Sending thoughts and prayers to his family and friends and wishing a swift and easy delivery of his grandbaby; you will meet at the gates of Heaven.

May the department mourn and heal from this loss.

God Bless!

My thoughts and prayers are with the family, co-workers, and friends of Detective Thomas. It's such a strange sensation to feel so sad and so proud. While it breaks my heart every time an officer dies, it makes me proud to know that there are such men and women willing to put their lives on the line. May he truly rest in peace and may his family never cease to know how much he was appreciated.

"LORD, you said that once I decided to follow
you, you'd walk with me all the way.
But I have noticed that during the most
troublesome times in my life,
there is only one set of footprints.
I don't understand why when
I needed you most you would leave me."

The LORD replied:

"My son, my precious child,
I love you and I would never leave you.
During your times of trial and suffering,
when you see only one set of footprints,
it was then that I carried you."

Although I did not know Det. Thomas, I can see that he was an extraordinary man in all aspects of his life. It's comforting to know that he is up in heaven and ready to help the Lord carry us in our times of trial and suffering...rest in peace, we'll take it from here.

My wife and I moved our daughter and son-in-law home from Aurora on Tuesday, September 19, 2006. My son-in-law served in the USAF and was stationed at Buckley for nearly two years. We have had the chance to visit Aurora several times and interacted with several Aurora patrol officer's when we had the chance. Thanks to all of the officer's of the Aurora Police Department and this great nation who put their lives on the line every day. Distance may have separated us, but nothing separates the thin blue line! The Aurora Police Department and Detective Thomas' family are in my family's and department's prayers. God speed brother, until we meet again!
