We would like to send our heartfelt sympathy to Tpr Longobardo, his family and to the members of the New York State Police, during this tragic time. Even though we did not know you, we spoke of you and Tpr Baker during our briefing today. Some of us know and are friends with NYS Troopers and other officers in Western NY, and are concerned with all officers safety. It really hit home to us - we may have never met you - but we did assist your agency in the manhunt while that fugitive was in Broome Co. To the Longobardo family - please know Joseph's death was not in vain. Tpr Longobardo - We will continue, we will prevail, we will catch him and bring him to justice. Thank you for your service to NYS. Rest in Peace !!!

A POLICEMAN'S PRAYER
BROTHER WHEN YOU WEEP FOR ME REMEMBER THAT IT WAS MEANT TO BE.
LAY ME DOWN AND WHEN YOU LEAVE REMEMBER I'LL BE AT YOUR SIDE...IN EVERY DARK AND DREARY ALLEY I'LL BE THERE AS YOU SLOWLY TREAD, ON EVERY STREET CORNER IN THE DRIVING SNOW I'LL HOLD YOUR COAT AND YOU WILL KNOW.
IN PLACES WHERE THE DEVIL IS AFRAID TO WALK...
AT DOORS WHERE YOU MEET RESISTANCE...
IN HOUSES WHERE CHILDREN HIDE...
YOU KNOW I'LL BE AT YOUR SIDE.
THE PLACE FROM WHICH I NOW RESPOND IS OVERSTAFFED WITH HEROES GONE...MEN WHO ANSWERED ONE LAST JOB AND DID IT WELL.
AS POLICEMEN WE UNDERSTAND THAT THIS IS A CARD DEALT IN OUR HAND...A CARD WE HOPE WE NEVER PLAY BUT WE HOLD IT THERE ANYWAY.
THE CARD IS SOMETHING WE IGNORE AS WE STAND ON THAT THIN BLUE LINE EVERY TOUR...FOR WE KNOW THAT WE ARE THE ONLY PRAYER FOR MANY OUT THERE.
SO REMEMBER, AS YOU WIPE YOUR TEARS, THE JOY I HAVE KNOWN THROUGHOUT THE YEARS...AS THE JOB I LOVED TO DO I PRAY THAT THIS THOUGHT WILL SEE YOU THROUGH.

My prayers are with the family and friends of this fallen hero as well as with all of the NYSP. Not many people understand why when trouble comes up and others run away police officers run head long into it. The words Protect and Serve aren't just words that are printed on patrol cars its an oath that all who take it and all who will take it in the future are willing to lay there lives on the line for. The coward that did this will get what he desrves and you can rest assured that no one in law enforcement will rest until he does. God bless you Trooper Longobardo and all others who wear the badge and who will and have Protected and Served.

May you rest in peace. The New York State Police have lost an excellent Trooper who obviously enjoyed his chosen career and did it exceptionally well. Our prayers go out to your family in the hope that they can get through this terrible time. May they take some comfort in knowing that you gave the ultimate sacrifice while doing the job you loved. Your law enforcement family has joined as one and we will continue to hunt for the coward who ambushed you and Trooper Baker. We will also continue to pray for his full recovery .
