I never had the privilege of knowing Joe, but as a former Marine and current police officer myself, I can attest to his character. I know the high degree of committment it takes to obtain each title. As a member of Joe's extended police family here in Michigan, I wish to extend my deepest sympathy to his immediate family, friends, and NYSP coworkers. Joe was a member of not one but two very special fraternities; the US Marine Corps & public law enforcement (NYSP chapter). When I graduated from boot camp one of my drill instructors told me..."there will be wars and men will die, but as a Marine you will live forever in the name of the corps". Joe may be gone from us physically, but every time you hear the Marine Corps hymn or see a New York State police car cruise by on patrol, or see a trooper going about his duties.....Joe's there!!
Semper Fi Marine & God speed brother!!

To the friends and family of Trooper Longobardo,

My deepest sympathies go out to all of you, family and friends. Tomorrow, 9.8.06 is the six month anniversary of my best friend, whose watch ended abruptly. I take comfort in the fact that he is at peace, watching over us, his sacrifice never forgotten, always appreciated. The same goes for Trooper Longobardo and the rest of the "Blue Angels". Rest in peace Trooper, you've given the ultimate sacrifice, that which will always be remembered, cherished and honored. I pray for your family and friends.

My thoughts and prayers go out to Trooper Longobardo and his family. He was so young and he died an early death doing what he enjoyed doing. I didn't know him but I appreciate all that the troopers and law enforcement do for us. He probably woke up like any other day not know it would be his last. I will keep him and his family and all the law enforcement in my prayers.

The Police motto is to serve and protect. Trooper Joseph A. Longobardo did just that in the highest way possible with his life. For that we are forever saddened yet grateful for his sacrifice. My heart and prayers go out to his family and fellow officers. May the troopers find his killer soon and no more die from his hand. Thank you all for your dedication in making NY safe.

All of us in SP Binghamton think about you every day since this happend man. We were all hoping you would pull through. Just taking this job, joining the MRT and being out there looking for the coward shows what kind of man you were. You and your family will be in our prayers.....
