Reflections for Trooper Joseph Anthony Longobardo
You hurt us, yes, I will admit to that,
we did not see it coming, we did not know where you were at.
You hurt our spirits, the act made the news,
you caused death, destrution,
you made people sing the blues.
you made the wound, you poured the salt,
but wounds will heal, and the pain will halt.
we wave the flag, the people stand brave,
everyone knowing, your mistake was grave.
we can forgive, but we cannot forget,
the terror and pain that you set.
with our heads held high, and our spirits too,
we have pride with the red, white, and blue.
and now, as time goes by,
you still see the flag, waving in the sky.

To the family and friends of Trooper Longobardo, my sincere condolences go out to all of you during this hard time. We lost a great friend and brother in blue last year and it can be very hard to understand why these things happen. Daniel was a great friend and outstanding officer to Huntsville Police Dept, and as I can see, Joe seemed to be a awesome asset to New York State. I know words can never really convey what is in the heart, but know all of you will be in our hearts and prayers as you start this journey. Know you are not alone and all the brothers and sisters in blue will step up to the plate and make sure justice is served on the person that did this and that they too will help watch over the family so they will be taken care of. God bless all of you and thank you to the fellow officers for what you do each day, I know we don't thank you enough.

AS MY BROTHER IN LAW ENFORCEMENT I MUST COMMEND YOU FIRST AND FOREMOST FOR MAKING THE ULTIMATE SACRIFICE DOING THE JOB YOU LOVED. IM SURE EACH DAY YOU PUT ON THAT GRAY UNIFORM YOU DID IT AS PROUDLY AS THE DAY YOU BEACAME A TROOPER. IT TAKES A SPECIAL PERSON TO PUT ON THAT UNIFORM EACH DAY NOT KNOWING WHAT THAT DAY COULD BRING, AND YOU DID IT WITH DISCIPLINE AND DETERMINATION WHICH MADE YOU THE GREAT TROOPER ALL YOUR FELLOW TROOPERS AND BROTHERS IN LAW ENFORCEMENT GREW TO ADMIRE.MAY GOD BLESS YOUR SOUL AND MAY YOU REST IN PEACE.

May you rest in peace & may your family find comfort in the love & support of the NYSP family as well as those of us in the criminal justice field who strive for what is right and just.
Thank you for your ultimate sacrifice. You and your fellow troopers and police officers have my unwavering respect and admiration for the selfless (and oftentimes thankless) job you do.

To the Family of Trooper Longobardo,
Your family is in my thoughts and prayers. My heart broke to hear of another officers death. I lost my husband, Sheriff Deputy Michael Bancroft, on August 23, 2005. May God give you the comfort and strength in this time of sorrow. May your husband live on through your son and forever in your heart.

I hope Ralph Phillips filty family and friends are proud of themselves. It is beyond belief that they can blame the New York State Police for bringing this unfortunate situtation on. Ultimately, in the end, Ralph Phillips is a coward, coming out of the woods with his hands up. It is too bad Joe wasn't afforded the same opportunity for his life... God speed Trooper..

The Lord's blessing on you, His comfort and strength on your family. We cannot help but feel that you oversaw your fellow troopers and guided them to bring, as your Superintendent stated, "the bad guy" to justice.

I had the honor and privilege to be a classmate and roommate of Joe in the NYSP academy. I can't say enough good things about him. He was a husband, son, father, friend, and most of all a hero. The New York State Police is a weaker agency without Trooper Joseph Longobardo. RIP my man (Shield 4566).

R.I.P. Brother. It is wrong when a officer pays the ultimate price for doing the job he/she loves so much. Thank you for serving the U.S. and the state of New York.

I pray for your loved ones to find some peace and recover from the crimes they are a victim to now. I wish your fellow troopers to look after your family. When an officer dies in the line of duty, it gives a heavy heart to all good members of the world we live in. Thank you for your life of public service.
