Trooper Longobardo

It is with deep sadness that my family heard of your tragic passing. You and your family are in our thoughts and prayers. I know you are probably looking down on us now with Craig watching over us and continuing to protect us. You are in good company. Craig, along with all those in Heaven, are lucky to have such a brave and honorable man with them. You will truely be missed.

To Teri
I can only imagine the pain you are going through. I hope you will take comfort in knowing that Joe’s love for you will live on forever (For love never dies). You and Louis will be in my prayers and I promise that Joe’s memory and sacrifice will not be forgotten.

To Louis
I hope some day you will understand how special your father was. He loved you and you gave his life meaning. Know that your father died protecting freedoms most people take for granted. As you grow up, never question your father’s love for you. He died doing his very best to make the world you will grow up in, a better, safer place.

To my brothers and sisters of the New York State Police

My heart goes out to all of you. Recognize you must come together and go forward with the knowledge that you are filling in the gap of the Thin Blue Line left by Joe’s death. I know you will carry on in spite of this tragedy; because like our fallen hero, you know brave men and women must continue to place themselves in harm’s way to honor his memory and to safeguard your community.

To the wife and son of Trooper Longobardo. I am deeply sadden by the sensless and cowerdly act of violence that took place on the 31st day of August 2006. In a split second your husband was taken from you and a father taken from your son. Keep your head up and take each day one at a time, for your son needs you to be strong and carry on now more than ever.
God Bless

I come to the ODMP often to remember my late fiancé Dennis. Everytime I come here it breaks my heart to know that yet another officer has fallen and that yet another family has to live their lives without the man they loved. My heart goes out to everyone who knew and loved Trooper Longobardo, especially to his wife. Know that you are not alone in the "journey" that you walk. Should you ever need anything please don't hesitate to contact me. The Davis Co. Sheriff's Office in Iowa will always know how to reach me. You will be in my thoughts.

From reading the reflections left for Joseph, he sounds like he was a great man with a beautiful spirit. Those of you who knew him in life were so blessed to have been able to share in it. I hope that you will all continue to find a way to celebrate and remember Joseph's life and the MAN that he was. Remember that Joseph's life was about so much more than the way he died. Joseph will continue to live on as long as we continue to remember him.

Trooper Longobardo, thank you for helping to make this world a little safer for us all. YOU will not be forgotten. Please continue to watch over all of us as only you can. If you happen to bump into my late fiancé Dennis up there give him a big hug for me and the kids. It's been three and a half years but we still miss him terribly.

Wishing you brighter and better days,

Jocelyne :)

How does one say Thank You to someone who gave their all and yet one never knew you. It takes a special person to do the job you came here to do for people you don't even know. I am so sorry. Thank You for making this world a better place.

Having just buried a fellow police officer and being born and raised in NY, I feel your pain Mrs. Longobardo and members of the NYSP. My prayer will be that you will all look to our Heavenly father for comfort and guidance during these trying times. The book of James tells us that there will be times of trials and tribulations, but it is during these times when we develop perseverance. Look to Christ. Rest in peace brother, rest in peace.
